Columbus Sat Nav Update

Featured Replies

Hello All

I wondered if you could help, I have a 59 plate Octavia with the Columbus unit, unfortunately it seems the version of the maps is the one that it was came with in 2009.

So I went on the Skoda website and was over the moon when I saw I could update it for free, so spent many hours downloading it as it is over 16GB in size and then put it on a 32GB SD card...........

I then read the manual and saw that the unit will only accept up to 2GB SD card!!!!!

So my question is how in the hell can I update my unit to the latest version (which perversely allows the unit to accept bigger cards) if it wont let me put anything in bigger then 2GB??!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi

There are people on here with more knowledge than me but as far as I know the free map upgrade via an SD card is only for the newer version of the Columbus and not the version that you may have.

I have a 2012 model and had to upgrade my maps to the latest version via a DVD.

Probably not the answer you were hoping for but as far as I am aware there is no "legit" free source for the earlier models

You need a new DVD. The download you mention is for the mk3 octavia.

You can either buy one, see if your local friendly dealer will let you use their DVD, find someone with a copy and borrow that or do some googling to download a copy for yourself (not legal but it doesn't bother me or thousands of others)

Ah OK that makes sense - well its probably a bit quicker than trying to upload 16GB to the unit !!

Many thanks for you help, I will see if I can "source" an update DVD.

The RNS510 Columbus can definitely take SDHC cards; I believe going up to 32GB.

I have certainly had no issues using a 16GB one with mine (a late-2009 C variant).

Earlier RNS510 models may require a firmware update to support larger SDHC cards.

Whilst the Columbus will read 16GB cards, it needs the latest firmware to enable it. Even then the map data cannot be read from the card, only from DVD. The only legit place to buy/source the update is your local VW/Skoda/Seat dealer since the same disc is used in all versions of the RNS-510 (the Columbus being one). Links to illegal downloads will be removed, this site is monitored by VAG and we don't want a takedown notice served.
