which download program for Balero sd?

Featured Replies

Which is the best download site to get music onto an sd for use on my Balero? Free is possible. Which does everyone use?

Just whack the SD into the computer and copy across. No special format / layout.

Ah right. I did use an Mp3 download app on my phone but for some reason it wouldnt read in my radio?

Get your self an SD card reader and as above, copy and paste.  There are threads on here about playlists, but the Bolero seems to have a mind of its own as to what it plays anyway, especially with the mix on.

Was that the thread where we discovered you were using a micro SD card in an adapter?

Or is it that the download software is somehow encoding the MP3 file for use on your phone or in that software only?

I was really askin what software people use to download the songs so then I knew it was the sd card that was the problem not the software. I'm not that good on computers so sorry if I'm repeating questions or sounding a bit thick! Lol

Do you mean download, as in get from the internet, or copy (burn or rip) off a CD you physically own?

I use iTunes to copy CD's to the computer (not in MP3 format although I could) and then MediaHuman convertor (http://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/) to convert the Apple format to MP3.

I then copy these files straight to a FAT16 formatted SDHC (16Gb) card using Apple's Finder.

I could skip the convertor software, but my media library is in a higher quality file format than MP3 supports.

I've no idea if the software I use will break the encryption on media purchased through iTunes (or other sources) as I've not tried anything other than what I own on CD.

As in get from the Internet. Whats FAT16?

It a structure for the base format on the card - think of it a bit like the a language that the 'book' is written in.

If the 'book' is not in the correct language, the 'reader' (the SD card slot on the HU) won't understand what is on it.

Windows tends you use NTFS as the format of choice now (AFAIK) and Mac computers use HFS+ - FAT16 & FAT32 are considered legacy formats now.

Right get ya, so can the Balero only read this fat16?

AFAIK, yes.

Right. So next question, how do I make sure it's fat16? Sorry this is like talking to a child. Lol

Are you on a Windows PC or Apple Mac?

Right this is where I'm up too. Got info off YouTube about formatting to fat16, that seems easy enough, but my laptop is now not reading my sd as well? Is this a fault with the reader? Because my stereo wouldn't read it and now my laptop won't?

Tried a new reader and it registers on my laptop. When I try to format it though it says it can't do it? How come.?

If your card is SDHC and your laptop only reads old SD then you are stuck without a new reader.

It could be the SD adapter or the card itself.

I'll not discuss downloading copyrighted material from the Internet for free.

So in a nutshell is that it? Get an sd card formatted for fat16 and download mp3 songs and that should work?

Yes. As long as the MP3 files aren't encrypted / locked to a specific player.

Try formatting the SD card then 'ripping' a CD as MP3 files using pre-installed software (I'm not a Windows user so can't advise further, sorry).. Drag and drop these straight on to the SD card then try that in the car.

Or use iTunes to rip it to your HD as MP3's (it's in the preferences under import settings). Find these files and drag the folder straight to SD as a test. It'll be named after the artist with a sub folder named after the album.

Sorted it mate! My laptop wouldn't let me format it just using fat, so I tried fat32, it worked. So then downloaded Spotify, to get the music, spotidl to download the music then copied the songs to the sd using media player and hey presto! It works! All that then made me sound like I knew what I was talking about. Lol YouTube is a great help. Thanks for all your help kbphoto, much appreciated
