Do I need H4 or D1S lights for Yeti Elegance 1.2 TSI DSG

Featured Replies

I was looking through some of the threads about how to improve the lighting for the low and main beam and through those I ended up ordering Osram Nightbreaker Plus Bulbs H4 through Power Bulbs website.

I've already changed both H7 fog lights which went last week - they were quite straight forward - £9.99 each from Halfords.

However, I've just checked page 238 of the owners manuak and it says that the Low Beam and Main Beam Halogen bulbs are H4 and Xenon are D1S.

I have a 2010 Yeti Elegance 1.2 TSI DSG which have the white light for the main beam (bi-xenon).

Should I have ordered the D1S Xenon instead of the H4?

If so Power Bulbs didn't show these up when I searched under my vehicle and just displayed the H4 bulbs.

I don't want to open the wrapping and start the fix them in  as I may have to send them back to Power Bulbs.

Really appreciate your help.

If you have Bi-Xenons you will not need an upgrade!

Seems you ordered the wrong bulbs in error, so send them back unopened!

If your finding the xenon's poor I'd get the dealer to check them out for being set to low. Problem with lights that use a DE module eyeball is the pronounced upper cut off line between good light and no light.

Often found the factory set the lights up on the lower limit.

Thanks

Does that mean my Elegance uses D1S bulbs and not H4?

If so is it not possible to upgrade to a better D1S bulb rather than the factory fitted ones?

  1. Yes!
  2. Why?

See #3 above - the lights when correctly adjusted are awesome!

Have you got head lamp washers ? if yes you have Bi-xenons.

If not then you would have to have washers fitted if you upgraded to Bi-xenons.

You can't upgrade to bixenons just by swapping bulbs so I'm guessing the op already has them (he has an Elegance after all) as stated but thinks he can make them better with a new bulb. I'm afraid it's as good as it gets and as mentioned should be brilliant. If they aren't then get them checked out. :)

Does anyone know how easy it is to change the standard DLR bulbs, the ones just below the fog lamps??

I also find the xenons awesome, best lights I've ever had on a car. Still, I have been wondering whether uprated D1S bulbs such as the Osram Xenarc Silverstar would make them even more amazing (greedy, I know...). Has anyone had experience with these?

Of course this would only happen come replacement time as the cost is quite steep, and given the lifespan of the Xenon bulbs I guess that won't come about anytime soon...

Thanks for all the replies.

I do have washers so in that case I have Bi-Xenons. I think I got confused as so many people were upgrading their H4s and I naturally thought I could do the same. Now I know I have D1S bulbs I don't need to worry.

I will get them checked to make sure they are set to the maximum.

Would be interested to know the answer to the previous post though.

Thanks for all the replies.

I do have washers

So do I and I don't have the Bi-xenons,   they are standard fit on all but the E (I think that's correct)

^ Really?  I think my SE's got old-fashioned acetylene or whatever?

My SE had the acetylene, it was a bu@@er to light them in the wind  :giggle:. So upgraded to the halogen NB plus much better and they work off the switch  :giggle:

That sounds really neat, Kevin!  Dealer or SuperSkoda? :notme:

:hi: Ebay is best

I thought the question/statement was referring to headlight washers E and S go without washers   :giggle:

SE has washes and 'oil lamps' as standard, Elegance and L&K have washers and a pair of Eddystone's

Just to clear up any confusion I may have caused.
