1.8 tsi overall gearing?

Featured Replies

SUK have seen fit not to import the 1.4 Greentec, but I've just noticed that you can have a FL  Outdoor1.8 tsi L&K.

(I'd like a panoramic roof and the rear view camera looks tempting as well.)

What are the 1.8 revs at a genuine 70mph?

Will it happily potter about at 40 or even 30 mph in 6th gear?

I have a 1.8 and find the gearing very good except at the top end.

1st is very low - almost a crawler gear, I suspect this is one of the things that makes the Yeti good off road.

Very happy at 40mph in 6th, a bit marginal at 30 except on the flat - when the revs drop below 1200 the torque drops off as you would expect.

70mph is 6th is something like 2600-2700 - quite a bit short - it could really do with a 7th gear.  My last car was geared for 100mph at 3000rpm and while it had less power and torque that the 1.8 it never felt under powered.

Not really an issue in the UK but if, say, you were to drive in the Continent, you would notice that fuel economy drops off quite a bit beyond 70mph.

It seems like the 1.2 and 1.8 have the same gearbox.

I would not be surprised.
