Get more out of a 1.4MPI?

Featured Replies

Hey,

Dads VRS Octy made my Fabia look like it had stopped on the dual carriageway  , is there anything I can do to increase the performance of a 1.4 MPI Fabia? Only small stuff though. Im gonna buy a green filter when I get paid, that should help it..a bit.

Any help would be great. Ta

(p.s - I know I cant beat Dad, so just looking for little tweaks :drive: )

Tow rope ......from mine to yours :D

Swap the engines while he's asleep :D

to be honest Kevin, a green filter is a waste of money in a non-turbo car. You will get about 5% increase, which in a 68bhp car will make zero difference. If you must go for it, I would do an exhaust as well. there is not much you can do to a non turbo car without spending silly money to improve it.

Plus insurance will be a killer if you mod it! Best bet to make it faster without spending any money is make it lighter ... remove spare wheel, rear seat, etc, etc to increase your power to weight ratio. Other option would be to sell it and buy an old Jap import Scooby/Evo and kick his a*se ;)

how to make it quicker????

obvious, push it off a cliff :P

seriously though mate they are right would cost shed loads to get any noticeabe difference.

stick with it as is and save for a bigger faster car, much cheaper in the long run :)

Put a turbo on it! :)

Seriously, get a new exhaust, air filter and you will gain 2-3BHP. Chip tuning might give you another 5-7BHP so...not really worth it. The best thing you can do is to replace it with a 1.8T engine. I heard of few people who got 140BPH out of 1.4MPI engine but that costs loads of money.

learn to drive ;) start redlining gears etc.

take the carpets out and the rear seats. and general un-needed plastic stuff.

then do as my 'gang' are doing and strip the thing down to the chassis and drop a new lump in :)
