Fabia MPI 1.4 Head Gasket

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

The HG went on the other half's Fabia earlier this year, so I replaced it, using the Haynes manual as a guide.

I had head skinned, used a new gasket and torqued the bolts, as per the Haynes manual. Unfortunately, soon after it started to leak again! (Less than 2k miles)

Is this a particular weak point on these engines? If I decide to replace the gasket again, is there anything obvious to look out for as I don't want to be doing this a third time!

Are all gaskets the same, for instance or is there a special "stronger" gasket that'd cure these issues?

I suspect the head can't be skimmed again, does anyone have a 1.4 MPI head in good order that they want to sell me?

There is a later version of head gasket for the 1.4 MPI. I would be surprised if the head had distorted in 2000 miles, are you sure it's the head gasket that's leaking.

It's likely that the torque settings in the Haynes manual are too low. At least that's what I've been told.

We have a similar problem after replacing all gaskets and putting a new (second hand but unused) cylinder head on.

The revised head gasket is a Temac one and can be seen poking its name out on the near right corner of the engine when Argos at the front if the car looking into the engine bay.
