Hi all

Need help, I have a strange noise from passenger side under / behind the glove box area, and I can only describe it like a hamster building a little den or scrabbling around??

Car is a 2003 Octy VRS estate

Air con re-circ flap motor 

 

 

 

Either unplug or replace, both ball ache jobs.

What happens if I unplug?

the recirc part wont work. Its a pig to get to...let alone replace.

As they have said above, Its not too bad a job really, remove the 2 torx screws under the glove box, open the glove box and remove 3 torx screws, unclip the light in the glove box and remove the glove box.

 

Remove the 2 6mm bolts under what looks like a filter box and remove the lid, then slide the fan down and unclip, I would personally replace it as its winter and without it you wont get much heating blowing through your vents and you windows will steam up (personal experience of all of the above)

 

Only took me 20 mins to do.

I wouldn't want my hamster to suddenly die, so how long do you think it would last before it finally pans it? Or is that a bit of a how long is a piece of string question?

I'm pretty handy with a spanner so don't mind doing the swap / fix!

yes just to clarify, if its the motor its not bad to do as RandM says follow his guide.

 

does the noise change if you chage the motor speed? is it coming from the bottom left passenger footwell or is the noise coming from the centre bottom of the dash behind the central tunnel area in the dash?

 

If its the recirc flap/motor then its more fiddly and involved.

I will try and pinpoint sound location more precisely.

I have found the self diagnostic climatronic process, so can anyone confirm the code readout for that recirc flap/motor?

Is the flap & motor 2 different items that have differing codes?

My recirc motor was knackered (common fault),  I just moved the flap to ensure that only air can come in through the pollen filter and left it at that.  I took a look at replacing it and didnt bother due to the pain in the arse it looked!

Ok, just completed the diagnostic and had code

4FA 00

What part will i need to change?
