Hi and some advice please

Featured Replies

Well I'm just about to get a new Fabia Estate 1.9TDi and looking for any pointers as to running it in as this is the first new car I have owned, as well as being my first diesel. Do I just go by the advice in the handbook? Any thoughts would be welcome. Ohh and one other thing, are all Fabias considered Furbys or just the vRS ones? :)

I posted the self same question when i brought my Fabia Vrs last month! According to most people who replied just make sure it's well warmed up (about 15 mins) and then pretty much anything goes as long you don't red line it. I've done about 2500 miles in the month since i owned it and everything seesms to be ok, hopefully i've done it right......

Welcome! :D The running in procedure in the handbook is fine to follow, but don't be shy of giving it some beans once in a while :D And yep, all Fabia's are Furby's, the vRS guys just outnumber the others :rofl:

Enjoy your car

Chris

Welcome and congrats on the car

Running in, am no expert but here's my thoughts:

First 600 to 1000 miles:

- warm engine (need to drive, heating up the engine stationary - not good)

- gently let the revs build up (do not floor the throttle...)

- slow gear changes

- do not go above 3500 revs

After this, start building up to max revs (not always ;) ) and use more throttle to accelerate. Go to normal speed gear changes.

And remember after a hard(ish) drive - let the engine run stationary for at least 30 secs so the the turbo gets oiled before switching off the engine. If you've really leathered it, obviously longer so it can cool down and get oiled.

Next - enjoy for years...

Furby = just Fabia

Well, that's my input

just take your time for a few hundred miles and everythin will be ok.

As an outnumbered one, can I add vrs to my signature and join the club please?

FAO Vikinguk - enjoy your Furby  Those Octy enthusiasts don't know what they're missing :D :peepwall:

go to User CP in the top left and there's a bit in there to stick some text in a sig! ;) Just wait until you start looking into tuning it. ;)
