Smash! Then run.

Great this afternoon I'm left with this:

vuhugubu.jpge5e5ytun.jpgemavu4er.jpg

Just passed my Skoda dealer on the way to work, the same route I do everyday through the new forest. Turned right and continued through a twisty country lane which is a 30mph limit due to horses in the road. Going round the second bend I see a Silver Honda Civic approaching me slightly over my side and before I knew it BANG!!

I stopped immediately but the Honda just carried on. I turned and picked up my parts in the road and gave chase rapidly after this Honda which just vanished, nowhere to be seen. A lady in an Audi saw and heard what happened but couldn't give me any further details other than Silver Civic :(

So I was about 100yds near my Skoda dealer again so I popped in and ordered the surround and mirror glass. No idea of cost yet but hopefully will get them tommorow.

I'm pretty p***ed off by this especially failing to stop. Luckily it didn't damage the Red mirror cover, not even a scratch. Just the surround and glass which all just snap fit in with clips so should be a quick repair when I get it in the garage at work :)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, how annoying! :@   Bad enough but luckily not a whole replacement mirror to pay for.  It will be interesting to hear how much the genuine Skoda parts cost.

Was there any glass or parts from the Civic's mirror assembly or did he/she appear to get off scot-free?

I'll put up the cost when I pick up the parts hopefully tommorow or Friday.

The Civics mirror cover was in the road too with my surround and glass. I left theres in the road as someone had run over it :)

Sorry to hear that mate...

It happened to me a few months back, but I was in the wifes car.

I gave chase and caught them parking up though.

Some people just have no morals

Anyway, glad its a relatively cheap fix (but still one you shouldn't have to pay for)

Sorry to here about your mirror but at least it's only that it could have been a lot worse .

Dashcam.

it would have gone 50/50 through the insurance anyway, since you were both moving I guess. The driver of the civic could have thought the same as the OP. and since both cars have broken mirrors. Even though its not moral, this could be the better outcome.

They could have at least reported the driver, along with photo, to the police for failure to stop, which might make them think again.

It's a shame really no reg number to go on. Silver Civic isn't enough information. Nice of the lady in the Audi to see it :)

Waiting on parts now. It could be tommorow as the parts guy just missed the 3pm deadline for next day delivery.

But if the camera showed the civic driver was not driving entirely in their lane they would be at fault.

Luckily the parts came today. Grand total including vat is £45.84. Quite cheap to be honest. Surround just clipped in as did the glass. About 2 mins to fit all in :)

Back to normal now.

Need to find an alternate route to work now.

Glad you got it sorted fella, and thankfully not too dear

Did you report to the police?

Did you report to the police?

No didn't report due to lack of details eg: reg number and too many small side country roads in the area.

Glad you got it sorted for not to much cash and good idea on changing route home save you from looking the civic each trip .

Cheers

Iv had someone do it to me in our focus before.

I was ready to give chase but not many places to turn round on a mountain pass.

All because he was wanting passed a push bike

Dashcam.

+1 from me too. Good to see everythings ok though and the cost and buggeration factor wasn't too big

Yes I think a Blackvue maybe on the horizon.

Anyway here's the part numbers & prices for anyone in a similar situation. (Hopefully not)

6RU857522 O/S mirror glass £33.70 plus vat

1S08576029B9 O/S mirror glass black plastic surround £4.50 plus vat.

Not too bad.... £45.

Yes I think a Blackvue maybe on the horizon.

I'm glad it wasn't more serious.

I bought two Blackvue 380G cams from Advanced In-car Technologies and fitted them to my wife's car the day BEFORE it was involved in a car park prang. I bought two more for my car and another for my granddaughter's!

No connection with the firm, other than a very satisfied repeat customer. Good price and nice to deal with.

On my old MB C200.... had a wing mirror taken off by a bus (when parked).... about 10 years ago.... £130..... heated and electric....ouch in those days.

Oh, I'm Sorry!

This happened to me a month ago, except I needed the body coloured surround, the black surround that surrounds the mirror and the mirror glass itself.

Total cost from Watford Skoda was £137 inc.  Ouch!

Strange thing was though, I've got a Citigo Sport, and the parts department first of all told me "that since you've customised the car yourself by applying coloured stickers that they would only supply the body coloured mirror surround".  I showed him the brochure with the sport model in, and he had no idea!

Been waiting since for the stripes that go on the mirror since they're on back order.

Anyway - easy enough to fit yourself in five minutes.

Gutted for you mate - glad it's all looking good as new.
