Driver side lock barrel broken into

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Today to my shock my car was broken into. Seems like someone got a flat screwdriver and forced it into the barel. Likely enough they didnt steal the car however i now have another problem, the car can now opened with virtually anything as long as its narrow like a flat screwdriver. The barrel turns and opens the car with very little effort. Not too sure what to do for over night as its on the street and secondly how do i repair it as the barrel defo needs replacement.

As the barrel is soo damaged i assume the repair kits will be useless as i can turn and open the car door and deactivate the alarm without the original key. I assume therefore the cylinder is damaged (or am i wrong?)

Regards

I think it'd be sensible to take the door card off and disconnect anything it's attached to that opens the door - for the want of stating the obvious.

I've taken the barrel out and then removed the long flat part. Put the barrel back in. Now it will turn around however the door lock won't open as intended.

Went to nirro vw spare parts and bought a passat lock barrel for £25. Called a locksmith who will match the barrel to my key for £30.

Called skoda earlier, they needed a code from the key blade that my keys didn't have. There was also a 4 week lead time as they get cut in Germany. What a nightmare. Unnecessary expense when my wife is due any day now!

All sorted now, locksmith sorted the lock by swapping the pins. When I removed the lock I wasn't aware there is a clip inside too, the clip gets disconnected if you loosen the side screw too much! Took to the local mechanic who took 30min to fix it.

Hope whoever done the damage in the first place doesn't have another go.

Glad it's sorted

Let's hope they won't bother trying again.  I always think it's bit of a shame it's illegal the shoot the bastids!
