Cam belt for Fabia Mk-2 1.2 3 cylinder ?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have Fabia 2007(57reg) Mk-2, 1.2HTP, 3 cylinder

When I gave my car for winter check with Skoda dealer(Marlborough Isleworth) I was told that I need to get cam belt changed.

Its little baffling because to my knowledge 1.2HTP 3 cylinder has chain timing.

can anyone please confirm if I'm correct??

Also what are general service guidelines for servicing the chain ??

I'm under the impression they're chain driven also, mines 2008 (08) and no mention of any cambelt work upcoming at dealer, happy to be corrected though.

Your engine definately has a timing chain. They don't need replacing unless they go wrong, there's no set interval for them.

Maybe the dealer meant aux belt, but has a stupid service advisor that doesn't know their bum from their elbow?

+1 for the post above

Its defo a timing chain, my mum has a 2005 polo with that engine, and my 2013 fabia has the same but newer version, they are defo timing chains.

The timing chain and the aux belt are "lifetime items". Ask the garage what exactly and why they want to change it. If they say something like the chain is rattling and so is stretched, or the aux belt is seriously cracked up (small cracking is normal and not a reason to change) then fair enough.

It is rare to need to change either item, much more common to need to your dealer!

Im not sure about cars, but on bikes it tends to be the cam chain tensioner that goes before the chain itself. Causing a rattle atleast
