Fitting double din stereo and stubby aerial

Featured Replies

Just removed my standard single din skoda stereo to fit a double din bt unit but have a few questions

First of all after removing the single din stereo and the storage unit below ive tried fitting the double din cage. top to botton of the space is massive but side to side is really tight. Do i need to remove the plastic square trim and buy a aftermarket one or do i squeeze the cage in sitting on the bottom of the square and buy a cover to hide the gap at the top?

Also i guess i need to pick up a switched live (fused) for the stereo so where are people picking theres up from? fuse board/ciggerette lighter etc?

I also tried removing the standard aerial to fit a stubby aerial and althouth the standard aerial un screws to lay flat on the roof, i can seem to un screw it from the roof base completelt. Any ideas

Its a 07 model fabia vrs

I spent ages finding the right surround for my double din so there were no gaps. I used halfords for mine. I also would like to know how to remove the aerial.... I've tugged as hard as I'm willing to try with no luck lol

Aeriel. Just keep pulling don't be scared.

Cage. Force it in and buy a trim piece for the gap at the top. (part number evades me right now, someone will come along who knows it)

Switched live. Dunno sorry.

But the roof starts moving!!

Unscrew all the way lay it down so it doesn't point so high and pull.

Hold the base if your worried.

They are anti theft but do come out.

You shouldn't need to bring a switched live to the stereo. It should be there from the old one

Thanks for the replys/links. Fitted the stereo today and also found a switched live on one of the original plugs so its in and working now without having to run a switched live.

I know theres the top surround cover you can get from skoda to fill in the gap but even with the original side covers in place, there is a 10-15mm gap where you can see the stereo cage.Is there a complete surround you can get from autoleads or simular that fits tight all the way around?

You should be able to get one of those surrounds from anywhere, it will be an aftermarket one and eBay is probably the cheapest

Most double din head units usually come with it so you normally just need the little trim piece that goes above, mine actually arrived this morning, about to fit it before i set off to work in a sec

i used one off a mk4 golf on mine
