vRS problem - weird

Featured Replies

Driving my vRS earlier, and all of a sudden it beeped at me then stopped..

little bit down the road, the dashboard lights went off, all of them, came back on a second later, speedo was going a little weird but car didnt cut out... then the ABS light was on, traction light was on, Handbrake light was flashing... The Trip counter had reset and so had my mpg etc.. i pulled over, checked oil water earth on battery etc and all seemed fine. turned the car on and off a couple of times and now it has stopped.

The miles till empty was reading very low and the car seems a little jerky/lumpy on idle but nothing drastic. (Id just filled up so i know there are alot more miles left than suggested which makes me think the ECU has reset itself? When i last did an ecu reset it made the miles till empty read low.

Anyone had this happen to them before?

Sounds like symptoms of low battery voltage to me.  I'd get it, and the alternator looked at I think.

With so many sensors and the amount of electronics these days, it's best in the long run to get the garage to get it sorted.

Can't see the point of guessing and buying stuff, perhaps you don't need, to find out it was a simple solution..

I'd check the battery and make sure all the earth's are decent too. Also check wiring looms for breakages.

I had a very similar problem in our Cordoba PD130.

The earth connection to the battery was dodgy and so it would randomly just start beeping then cut out. A quick whack on the battery lid brought it back to life.

I checked the connection and just cleaned up and pinched the earth connection a bit tighter.

It's is also quite common for the earth lead to corrode where it connects to the body of the car.

Cheers mate, I used it all day today with no problems, car felt like it just had and Ecu reset but all way well... Until about 5 mins ago when it started doing it when I was sitting with just the ignition on in a car park, I had my radio on and I think the fans were too and my phone was charging, then I started it and turned everything electrical off but I had no power steering, I let idle for minute or so and then turned off and on and now I have power steering again...

Does anyone think this could be a dodgy battery ?

When the ignition is on (without engine running) do you have a battery light illuminated on the dash?

Definitely battery/alternator related.

Ive just been to measure my battery voltage etc.

Battery read 12.74/75 - think this is okay//

Measured from Negative terminal to where cable meets body and was reading -1.7ohm? Is this bad?

Measured from negative terminal to body of car and had 0 ohm?

Not sure are these correct?

Turns out the wires were chaffed underneith the alternator, I noticed the battery light on my dashboard wasnt working until this was fixed.

Thanks
