Best place to source cheap but decent track tyres

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

As per the thread title.

I'm looking for any advice on the best place to source some (not overly expensive) track shoes for my Fabia.  Have been given a few tips already but I'm keen to hear what others recommend.

It's looking likely I'll do the odd session this year and have some spare alloys for these to go on so can be road legal type or dedicated ones.

I would be looking for 205/45/16 or preferably 215/45/16

Appreciate that I could get some cheap part worns but I can't see that these would give me maximum enjoyment and seems potentially like a waste if I have spent money getting the car handling nice to then put on 3mm linlong's.

Any and all advice welcome

Cheers chaps

Seen a couple of Bridgestone RE01-R's on the bay, has anyone any knowledge/experience of these?

I get the tyres for my Car from a mate who sells these in Poland. Cheaper than here but you need to add the Delivery to UK (circa £40.00) plus costs for fitting these.

Depending on what you after really. I know size but will need some brands and models ideally to check the prices

OK try looking at Federal 595 RSR's, Yokohama AD08's, Toyo R888 simply because these are ones that I have heard of :)

Cheers buddy.  £40.00 isnt so bad delivery for 4 tyres.......................if they are a bargain

Had these on my Car before i traded in my previous alloys and loved it but never used these on the track, only road use. Really good in dry and wet.

I currently have Dunlops in the front and can't to replace these. Hate them...!!!

I have a brand new set of Fulda Sport 2 which I bought from my mate and paid £280.00 for four tyres. Will fit these after winter

Thanks, have seen that and I do like the idea of a tyre I can break in and get to know on the open road. I was hoping to do something a little cheaper than that though just in case I find that I have a tendency to lunch the tyres at every outing.

If that was the case then I couldn't really afford to do more than my first trackday :giggle:

I'd prefer 215's everytime

Message Sent, awaiting prices...

In the meantime I found these (Please bear in mind the price I listed below don't include the delivery)

Federals:

http://allegro.pl/4xopony-federal-595rs-r-semi-slick-205-45r16-83w-i3852995431.html

Works around £300.00 for the whole set.

Can't find the other ones. If you want to look yourself use this link and type in the tyre brand, size etc. Each price needs to be divided by 5 to give you the price in british punds.

I hope this helps

Thanks, can you help with the translation and let me know what delivery adds to that?

215/45/16?

too big for 16's?

Compared to my 205/40/17's on will theyfit.com I was only seeing a 0.68% difference or are you meaning something else (i.e better with less sidewall on track?)

Yes, certainly can...;) The costs i quoted are to deliver these to address in Poland. As I have done this soooo many times you have few cheap courier companies who will deliver these to any UK address for around £40.00 (depending on the weight).

For example my Bro in law had his 16" stellies with tyres delivered from Poland to UK for £60.00 so if you take the out the weight of the steelies this works around £40.00 maybe less. Re the translation just ask me what you need or post me few links and I'll let you know what's what...

Budget's a bit tight to make the purchase this month.

If this is still on next month though I will at least take a couple.

If I ran these as my fronts with just quality road tyres on the rear do you think I would see benefits over leaving road tyres all round or will it unsettle the car?

You'd get a lot of oversteer as the front would go round the corner and the back wouldn't...

Balance is key with handling near the limit IMO.

Hmm, I've just checked and they are "595 RS" - not "595 RS-R" - They look the same, so perhaps they have rebranded them a little and dropped the R off the end of the model name?  Either way, I am glad I bought mine when I did.
