Which Cluth Kit...? Help please..

Featured Replies

Hi People,

Im currently looking to get a new clutch for my motor,

Iv seen a couple of clutches that people mention on here that are good to get and will handle a stage 1 upgrade, Currently im running the car standard but i will be upgrading to a stage one soon, then hopefully a stage two,

Can i please get some advise on which of these two kits will handle a stage one and maby a stage two and also if i need to get any other parts with the clutch.

Iv notied that in each of the kits they have different weights in the flywheel, What is the benefit of this/disadvantages ,

If i could get some help here as i need to order my clutch asap as my current one is starting to go, (links below)

Cheers People

G60 single mass flywheel and VRS clutch kit. OEM from TPS is what you need

Hi mate, Who are TPS

Cheers

TPS = Trade Parts Supplies. They supply all the VAG dealers google your nearest one. Some supply to the public if they have a trade counter. Mention Briskoda for trade discount.

Hi mate

What is the difference between the kit I mentioned to the one you mentioned at TPS as they both have G60 flywheel and clutch kit, Or is it the fact that TPS will just be cheaper?

Also iv heard that these kits can cause  clatter at low revs, can you shine any light on this for me,

Cheers

As long as it's Genuine VAG stuff go for whoever can supply cheapest. As for chatter I think that could be on diesel engined cars. I have genuine G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch on my VRS 1.8t and it's silent. Also clutch pedal is much lighter.

Iv been looking into the G60 kit and iv read good reviews on here, so i think i will go with that

Could you tell me what parts you got with your kit and what is essential to change if there is anything apart from the kit like bearings etc etc,

Also do you have any recommendations on what i might need for my stage one remap, Ie new bushes, ARB, hoses, upgraded pancake pape, air filter?

also would this kit handle a stage 2 if i decided to go that far?

Cheers Buddy.

The kit should have everything you need. Best to check with whoever you get to fit it. As for handling stage 2 mine has..... So far. For stage one just make sure car is in good mechanical order. Serviced and no boost leaks. Stage 1 is ideal upgrade for a standard VRS with no modifications and will transform your facial expression from a smile to a big cheesy grin.

You can then concentrate on the supporting mods to take you to stage 2. Remember power is nothing without control ! And if I were you I would get an ATB-diff fitted at the same time as your planned clutch and flywheel replacement. It's not cheap but will make a huge difference and all too often people tune to stage 2 level. And then wonder why they can't transmit the power to the Tarmac.

Cheers for your help mate,

All the information you gave has confirmmed what i thought i need, its nice to have that supported,

Im ordering the kit tomorrow or tuesday, I will also have a look into this ATB-DIFF

Cheers for you help Buddy

Take care

  • Author

I think i will put the ATB off for a while and concentrate on the stage one,

What Engine mods do you all think i should get, IE hoses, pankake pipe, Exhaust if so which one?, RARB,

Cheers

do you possibly have all the part number for the kit,

Thanks

Righto, here's some part numbers for making up your own VR6/G60 conversion kit. Turns out over £100 cheaper than buying the kit from ECS or JBS.

Flywheel Bolts (6) = N90206103

Clutch Cover Plate Bolts (6) = N10101001

Mk3 Golf VR6 Clutch Kit (Sachs or LUK) = 021 198 141 (Consists of Cover Plate = 021 141 025FX, Clutch Plate = 021 141 031CX & Release Bearing = 02A 141 165A)

Mk2 Golf G60 Flywheel = Lots of conflicting P/N's on this as it looks like the same flywheel was fitted to alot of cars, but all these part number should lead to the same part.

JBS quote = 037 105 273C

ECS & MJM quote = 02A 105 269B

Chatters are more heard in the 6dpeed boxes

And also its more so ad the smf gets lighter guys :)

What's the advantage fitting the vr6/g60 clutch over the standard clutch? Just wondering for when mine needs replacing.

What's the advantage fitting the vr6/g60 clutch over the standard clutch? Just wondering for when mine needs replacing.

Cost, lighter pedal feel and able to handle more power.

I also though both petes and daves felt alot nicer to drive with the vr6 & g60 set up mate

I will change when its time .......... Or im allowed :D

My gear change is pretty awful at the minute. I'm gonna do a gearbox oil change and order some of those linkage bushes and do an alignment and see if all that helps. If not its looking like the clutch kit above.

Back again,

Iv called TPs and got some prices on the parts which i will collate together soon,

The next question i have is that apartently the cover plate number "021 141 025FX" has now apparently been discontinued, the guy mentioned that they do a cover plate "02141031cx" for the 1995 late model VR6, Would this cover plate fit the kit that i need or would it have to be the previous part number?.

Also in regards to the flywheel "Mk2 Golf G60 Flywheel" the part numbers that i have been given do not match anything on his database,The guy at TPS said can i get info on what year The Mk2G60 flywheel is for, or even a reg number,

If anyone can shine a bit more light on this,

cheers

iv looked into getting the Kit my self from TPS, but to be honest it seems quie a lot of confusion in finding the correct parts, Also the difference in price is probably only about 80 notes, and to be honest i think i might just go with the ECS kit from awsome GTI,

Unless anyone can help me out with the correct part numbers "which i would appreciate very much" then i think i will go with the actuall KIT straight out of the box to stop any confusion,

What does everyone think?

apart from that, cheers for your help.

Hi,

I am looking to buy a kit tonight! I found exactly the same.. They cant seem to find any g60 cars golf/ corrados even with the reg. The fly came out at £150 and the clutch kit came to £155 both including vat without the 12 bolts. Just so you know drew they don't have any standard weight at Awesome they said they cant remember the last time they sold one. Look at either darkside developments or onlychargeddubs.co.uk. I am going to get either the standard kit or the silent kit. Cheaper including deliverer than the ecs kit and is everything you need!

Hope this helps...

Anyone know if we are eligible for a discount from either Darkside Developments or only charged dubs?

Hi Paddy, yes you are right that the g60 ECS kit has two weights, I went for the lighter option with ECS

The price difference is only 18 notes compared to the charged Dubs.

If your ordering your "lighter" kit from charged dubs then the light kit will cost your more @ £348.00 then delivery on top,

My Lady "skoda ha ha" Is going in next thursday for the clutch, cambelt ,water pump, tensioner, gear oil change, and a RARB,

And Also just got some new shoes for it today

Next on my agenda is a, Upper/Lower front strut, new hoses/Vac hoses, suspention "not sure which yet",Pipe, mop and polish, then get a stage one, can anyone advise me on these please and also from which VAG car i can get a new floor carpet for my motor, "iv hear the golf floor fits but not sure which model".

Cheers Drew

Ps, have a read of this forum, its quite old but kind of made my mind up along with some other reviews. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/137030-ecs-stage-1-clutch-kit/

Edited by drew_smith

Sorry,

i didn't mention before i don't want the light version. I was going to go for the SILENT version from OCD, but if you go for the standard version it is £316+£8.50 delivery. so just cheaper than ECS, however, OCD have them in stock, whereas the ECS kit from Awesome they don't have the 20.5lb version in stock and you may have to wait 7-14 days.

If that makes sense,

Paddy
