Do speed ratings matter?

 

I'm pretty sure my P Zero Neros were always V and my Rainsport 2s a W so does it matter if i choose between Y and V for Rainsport 3s?

 

On Camskill Y is actually cheaper despite being the faster rating?

 

Not that i'm going to be knocking on it's safe limits of 186 mph or even the same limits of the V at 149mph....

As far as I know all the ones I have had were Y, but I really dont think it matters unless you are going to be doing that speed.

They do matter - especially to insurance companies if you are ever in an accident.  On a Fabia VRS the speed rating should be W or higher I think.

 

The rated top speed of the tyre is only one parameter to be taken into account (which should exceed the manufacturers top speed for the vehicle).  Another factor to be considered is heat dissipation, so whilst V rated tyres may have a rated top speed of 149mph, on your car they may not have adequate ability to dissipate heat, hence a higher rated tyre is required.

ordered the Ys

Only for Camskill to ring me and tell me the Uniroyal won't sell Rainsport 3s until they've used up all the stock of the relevant matching spec Rainsport 2s

As such I've opted for Vs instead as those are actually available
