Some blind old guy under took me then tried to switch into my lane. Feeling sad new wheels only went on two days ago and new wishbones and bushes were going to be fitted on fri. Now going to have to wait and see what insurance are going to do, basically there policy says they will write a car of older than 10 years :(

I used to be a vehicle damage assessor.

 

they wont write the car off simply because of its age.

 

it will be purely down to cost.

Need new passenger wing, arch, fog light and front bumper. Cant see that being cheap! :(

Not too bad really, wing can be £45 or less if you find one the same colour and I'm sure people will be breaking Fabias. Bumper will be the most difficult as they are really sought after. A new unpainted one will be £250 or so

Problem is, insurance companies tend to make decision using new parts.

Unless you can repair it on the cheap and tell them that's all you want to claim for... which might stop them writing it off.

If it does get wrote off I hope to buy it back to break for parts because thats what I do as a part time job anyway. Think I want a fabia again so transfer bits over. Its just annoyed me because I've recently bought a load of parts for it. And really pi**ed off at the guy who clearly needs a set of glasses, to smash into me and then still be squinting when trying to jot down his own details. Had my 2 young sons in the car also that was my main thing pulled right away from the road up on grass verge as far from busy road as I could because ive seen these horror stories on tv, motorway cops where people have been crashed into again after an accident. After swapping details and taking a tonne of photos. My car got stuck trying to get back off the grass, had to call my subarus friends to pull me off. Which was best is the end swapped kids and car seats into my partners car and a mate drove mine back was really shaken up think it had kicked in what had just happened and how lucky we were could of been worse considering its a busy fast road!

u can get the parts cheap I got my bumper off here for nothing there's a front wing too free if I remember

Sounds similar to accident i had last year, mine needed new wing, arch and wing mirror. Parts came to around £100. Its the paint that adds to bill as my total amount i believe was around £1000.

Front bumper is about 500-600 i would guess.

I would say your looking close to £2000 so you should be ok.

Else do the repair yourself and find a good paint shop that wont charge as much as a main dealer.
