Octavia Hatch Boot gaitor/bellow/electrical cabling thingy

Featured Replies

Hi All,

after much pulling apart of my car to discover why the parking sensors are playing up (water on PDC Unit)  i've discovered water is coming in around the rubber seal for cabling the electric and the water jet.

I'm going to hazard a guess it will be a massive pain to replace it as the cabling that passes through it will have to be stripped back and fed back through from somewhere, does anyone know any better or should i just pipe some silicone around the seal to stick it in place?

Just as a heads up for anyone finding this post in the future, if you are getting water accumulating at the side of the boot under the CD changer, check for water trail down the right hand side of the PDC Unit dripping down from higher up, it runs through the seal, drops down over various different seams and then runs down the wheel arch.  had to shove my head up into the void :(

The washer pipe to the boot is inside the wiring loom. It joins another pipe as you say just above the wheel arch. Mine was a year old when I bought the car and I found the repair whilst fitting a tow bar.

The dealer had simply run a replacement new pipe all the way from the joint to the pump. I assume these are OEM Skoda parts since the replacement pipe was identical and had the special skoda joint?

The joint on yours may have sprung due to frost - a very common problem. I would not suggest gluing them back. I would remake the connection and test for a leak. If it fails then the repair pipes are obviously available separately. They just run alongside the loom no need to strip back any wiring. There would be a bit of a struggle rerouting as you say.

Depending on how you feel about it and warranty etc. I would suggest it's a good diy job since the labour would be most of the repair and it's just pulling trim apart and fiddling. Essentially, if you could see yourself running a 1/4" pipe from the boot along the will up and across the dash and through the firewall then you could do this repair.

Hi Friendly,

Pipework is fine, not a water leak from the washer hose, its actually rain water running in through the gaiter the the electrics/washer hose passes through from the car -> the boot lid.  will try and grab a photo in a bit.

warranty? pah its 8.5 years old now ;)

Could you use something like a denso tape & silicone sealant to repair?

Try either a plumbers or sparkies supply
