4x4 service, when?

Featured Replies

I have a 170 CR TDi 4x4 registered November 2011 and has covered ~35k miles so far.  When does the 4x4 transmission need a service, or is it maintenance free?

I was advised by my dealer that it is every 40,000 miles for my Octavia II with Haldex 4.

Thanks.  Do you know what's involved?  Oil change, filter change???

I have just had my second service at 35000 miles 2k early as I was travelling abroad. The cost for the Haldex oil change was £65.60 plus vat.

Thanks for that.  Not a major job then.

Oil change only for Haldex 4.

Oil change only for Haldex 4.

And a MY 2012 Superb is Haldex 4?  Thanks.

I would think so. The Haldex unit has a part number engraved on the front underside of the unit. If the first 3 digits are 0AV then it is a Haldex 2 and if 0BR then it is a Haldex 4. Unhelpfully there isn't an Option Code (PR number) for the Haldex so you need to check visually. Alternatively if you get your car scanned with VCDS it will show the Haldex version in Address 22: AWD. The part number shown for mine is 0BR 907 554B and the production date of the car is 12.10.2010.

Hi Fred, I have a 58 plate 4x4 and the Haldex oil is indeed every 40k and it's important that it is done to schedule, When I took it in to have it done, even though the garage I used was a VAG specialist they hadn't done a Superb 4x4 and wasn't too sure if it would be the newer Haldex which requires just Oil or the older Haldex which requires a Oil and filter change, fortunately mine has the newer Haldex system on it and it was just oil it needed, they quoted £40 for that job (£100 for oil and filter) but said they'd do it for the price of the oil as I was having the cam-belt done, someone couldn't count as the end bill was only 1p more expensive that I got quoted for the cambelt change! Are you using a dealer or a local garage, I use the Lion Garages as they are VAG only specialists and a hell of a lot less than a Stealer!
