Brake Light Switch Change on Fabia 2

Featured Replies

I had the engine heater coil warning light flashing on the instrument panel. VCDS gave brake light switch implausible. So not a major problem to resolve, unless you're given duff info from the part supplier. 1st thing to do is check that all bulbs are working, ie both wing and upper LED. Change bulb if necessary. If bulbs ok, buy switch, and start replacement. Under the instrument panel is a piece of foam/polystyrene insulation panel. Carefully remove it. Locate the switch, grasp and turn through approx. 60degrees anti- clockwise. lift out and disconnect the plug. 2 spring locks hold the plug into the switch squeeze them together and gently pull the plug out. Fitting is reverse. reconnect the plug, fit the switch into the hole of the holder. Orientation is idiot proof. It will only fit in one way. Ensure it sits flat against the holder and turn clockwise until it clicks. Note the brake pedal must be in the relaxed position, so that when the pedal is pressed the plunger is free to extend. Now switch on the ignition, and you will see the coil light disappear. Test the brakes to see if the lights are ok. Refit the polystyrene panel. Time to remove the switch and fit new one.....5 minutes.

DONT do it the way the parts dealer said,  so that the pedal is fully depressed and then fit the switch, then allow pedal to return slowly, supposedly to set the switch. This is wrong. All it will do is lock the pin in, the switch inside will be open and no volts will go to the lights.

I hope this helps anyone else not to be fooled into the wrong way of fitting it.

Good info. Cheers

Iv changed one on a polo before, so did some research before i did that.

There was 2 types of switches for that. The revised one as you described and an older different type.

Maybe the dealer got confused when explaining or something.

Good to hear it sorted anyway :)
