Door carrier leak. Question though - what sealant to use?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Flippin' water in front and back, so am going to seal up the carriers and attempt to dry/replace the sopping wet fecking under-lay!

What sealant have people used?  There's a multitude out there and was wondering what results/reccomendations people have?

Thanks.

Simon.

Roofing sealant.. Can be applied while surface is wet and will seal properly.. Difficult to work though so I taped over the sealant on mine and moulded the sealant through the tape.. (I hope that makes sense..)

Nice one fella.  Was considering guttering sealant, but roofing sounds more permanent?

I get you - gun sealant in and tape over it to smooth it out, then remove tape?

Used plumbers gold on mine recently, works underwater apparently, recommended by quite a few people on here got mine from Toolstation.

Another vote for Plumbers Gold here!

I used gutter sealant first time round, and the water just managed to work its way around the sealant. Since removing the old sealant and applying Plumbers Gold my rear doors have remained dry as a bone! :)

Ah great. Really glad I'm going to have to do this job in the car I bought yesterday! Not sure how I missed the water marks on the rear doors cards! Anyone in Kent know any place that does this on the cheapo please?

Plumbers gold on amazon or ebay.

I wouldnt pay anyone to do it for you, once you see how the door card comes off its the easiest job in the world

I saw a couple of videos. Doesn't look too hard. Might have a go tomorrow! Just another job to add to my very long list! Ha ha.

Plumbers Gold here too.  I done mine originally with normal mastic, not sure what its for, just as a temp measure.  My carriers are all bolt on though so i will be removing them and doing a 'proper job' with Plumbers Gold very soon.  Their not leaking at the moment but want it done right.

Thanks. Ordered it and some clips! Happy days. Sort of.

I can vouch for the fact that Plumbers Gold sets underwater (in an incident involving an uncontrolled water release in a very expensive hotel in London).

I had run out when I did the passenger door on my Octavia so I used roof/gutter sealant from B&Q and that seems to have worked OK.

That sounds like fun! Hopefully I won't mess it up!

Turns out there is a little hardware shop in Mayfair which sells Plumbers Gold amongst many other things.

I did a very good impression of Beaker from the Muppets that day.

why two forum topics about the same thing only hours apart?!
