Decat with a standard back box, opinions on sound

Featured Replies

Getting fed up with people asking why my car sounds ****ed when it's idling because it's got a decat and mufflerectomy and also my elderly neighbours don't seem to like the derv growl when I go to work early lol. I was going to put a sports back box on like I had before the mufflerectomy but it got put on something else and I don't want to buy one. I've still got my standard back box and the only thing I dislike about it is that it sat too low for the cut out but I can sort that when I weld it back on.

Just wanted to know how it will sound really as it was bog standard when I had it on (so really quiet) and now it's mapped with a decat and a cone so I'd like abit of noise but I've got a feeling it will be really quiet in which case I won't bother putting it on

I've got a smallish box on mine, quiet really. If you want the box hidden get a mid silencer put in :)

I'm going to get my exhaust done again in a couple of weeks, smaller box!

I'm not bothered about having the standard back box on it again looks wise I just don't want it to silence it completely that's all

Screw what other people think if you like the set up you have already then stick with that.

I really can't be bothered telling anyone else why it sounds like a jet engine on idle, I lose the will to live every time someone asks why it sounds ****ed

The amount of times my Dad tells me my car's exhaust is blowing is mind numbing :(

Decatted and mufflectomied!

That's what I get all the time I really do lose the will to live when you hear it every day

The thing is it sounds great when you're driving. Just idle is a bit annoying .

Anyone who ask's, because Racekor. Simple !

That's why I got a box in mine in the end. Now I have to explain why my SMF rattles to everyone -_-

i have a decat and standard backbox and it sounds like a small jet on idle :) not that loud on boost, im going mufflerectomy soon :)

actually ill change that i cant hear it inside the car on boost not sure what its like from the outside tho

My neighbour has put me right off the idea of decat or mufflerectomy. Hes got a diesel Golf with a straight through exhaust and I can hear his car rumbling through the house when he's at the bottom of the street idling/parking. Doesn't help that he sits and revs it like a 12 year old sometimes too.

You can't hearing from inside on idle but it's a nice volume when on boost (even more so with the cone filter :) ) but outside the whistle is quite loud. Don't know whether to try the standard back box or not now
