Fitting a Towbar to a 2012 Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Seemingly a simple job but currently I am completely baffled.

I am trying to fit a Witter Towbar to my Estate.

All the bottom screws, wing screws and plastic plugs ( after removing the light units) have been released but something is still holding the middle section. The boot trim has been removed but I cannot see any other fixings.

Any help much appreciated

Cheers

Paul

Give me a few minutes and I'll dig out the diagrams for you as I've done this already (and am about to do it again).

I seem to recall there being some push pins / drive rivets to get out somewhere.

KBPhoto,

Very many  thanks you have made my day! I will have another try in the morning.

No problem. Have you spotted what you missed?

With those pictures and no experience, I managed to get the rear bumper off fairly easily.

Will be doing it again in a couple of weeks (to fit a towbar & replace bumper), so I had to dig the pictures out fairly soon.

Good luck.

Yes success, you are a star! Your instructions were very clear.

I had missed the two 10mm bolts each side behind the side panels. I found that the three bits of plastic trim at the boot rear required removal and of course the rear light units but no need to remove the side trims, just undo the two Torx headed screws securing the side trim plastic frame and  with a bit of care they can be manouvred to get a 1/4" socket on both bolts quite easily. The worst part was removing the cable clips from inside the bumper before releasing the reverse sensor plugs, I had to lie underneath and peer up as the bumper cannot be moved far enough to remove them from the top. I thought Dash boards were bad enough, but no longer.

Intending to fit a Ryder Towing module at the weekend to link the lights to the wiring. Nothing fancy just an interface to avoid loading the CANBUS.

I will have to remove the off-side, side panel then though to gain access to the 12 volt supply.

Thanks again

Karl,

Your towbar information looks as if it is from a genuine service manual, is a decent manual available on the open market?

Thanks

Paul

Karl, many thanks again. There is indeed a Haynes manual for the MK11 diesel version, I shall get one ordered.

Cheers
