"Lights On" Warning Sound is Faulty

Featured Replies

The sound that is supposed to warn me that I've not switched off the lights on my 2001 Fabia, is not working. I guess there's a little sounder unit somewhere which is faulty or has a wire disconnected. Does anyone know where it is and how i can get at the device/wiring? Has anyone had experience of a similar problem? (would be lovely to have a workshop manual to help with such simple things!)

Thanks in hope

Bob

The device is part of the dash insert (the clocks etc) and isnt available seperately.

Does your radio switch off when you remove the keys from the ignition? I ask because the lights on buzzer works off the same 'S' contact on the ignition so if you take the keys out and open the door with the lights on the buzzer sounds.

Hi Lummox

Thanks for the quick response.

The radio in the car is non standard, so i wonder if someone has messed up the lights on buzzer, or its wiring when fitting the radio.

The radio doesnt switch off with the ignition, ie it has a constant supply and has to be swiched off with the radio's own power switch. Does that give you any clues?

So if you,

Turn the lights on

Take the keys out of the ignition

Open the door

The buzzer doesnt go off?

Do you have central door locking? Does it work?

Yep you got it

I turn the lights on

Take the keys out of the ignition

Open the door

And the buzzer doesnt go off?

I don't have central door locking i'm afraid, (its a Classic).

So does that not sound good?

You got any ideas?

Bob

Sounds like its a faulty dash insert then.

Its easy enough for a dealer or someone with VAG COM to check as you can activate the buzzer in final control diagnosis.

Thanks Lummox, I'll have to get it to the garage then.
