Not used fuses? Are they connected?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm looking at hard wiring a camera into the car.

The wiring instructions says to take out a fuse with a switched live on and wrap the camera charger wire around it and push it back in again.

The fuse would really have to be forced back in again and not keen on doing that.

Have noticed in the manual there are some not used places. Are any of these hooked up to power?

Thanks

I can't believe the manual says to wrap the wire around a fuse. That's a really rubbish and sloppy way to do it.

Could you not pull the radio out and take a switched live from the wires behind there?

very sloppy!

For about £2 you can buy a repair wire which will fit into the back of the fuse box and give you a proper supply. You will obviously have to take things apart to get at the back of the fuse panel and it is a bit fiddly. One wire will give you two supplies as it has a connector on each end, so you can just cut in half.

Or use one of these?

That's what I have on the way for wiring in the camera I've ordered. I wasn't sure how to wire it up myself, but all has been explained in this thread I started yesterday http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/304288-piggyback-fuse-wiring/

what camera have you got?

Whoever the manufacturer is, I'd avoid them; surely to God they really don't think that's an acceptable way to get a live feed?

I'd love to see what insurers say if the wire then causes a fire, and they inspect the car and find a shonky bit of wiring to be the cause.

Fooling ridiculous in my opinion
