CD autochanger - has never worked!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought an approved used Octavia SE (2011) last August, everything's great about it except the cd player has never worked.

It's never been a problem for me as I prefer using the mp3 card, and I always thought I'd sort it out at some point. But nothing's worked so far and it's starting to annoy me. So:

1. Is there anything obvious I'm doing wrong? When I press load the 6 empty cd slots come up on the display but there's absolutely no noise of any cd player trying to load. When I try and put the cd in it just hits something solid. I haven't ruled out the possibility that there's no cd player at all! There's no place to load cd's in the boot or glovebox - I've checked just in case. Surely the cd player is standard in SE models??

2. Any chance this is something that would be covered by the approved used warranty? I had a look through the warranty but it was only about mechanical issues, didn't seem to mention whether the stereo is covered or not.

Sorry if these sound like very stupid questions, but it would be great to have some help on this before I speak to the garage (and appear an idiot to them). I've read a lot posts on this forum already and everyone seems really helpful.

Many thanks

Is there a cd changer under the passenger seat or in the l/H side of the boot?

Hi - thanks for reply. No I've just double checked.

Also what's odd is there's never even a noise of a e.g. a stuck cd cassette trying to move or anything trying to load a cd. I can see the buttons on the display for all of the empty cd slots, but nothing happens when they're pressed.

If it is a Bolero head unit, the 6 CD loader is built in.

There won't be anything under the seat or, more likely, in the LH side of the boot.

If it is a Bolero and the CD won't load, then the transport mechanism is broken, the slot is jammed with another disc (it has happened) or doesn't like your choice in music (sorry).

Can you confirm what HU you have fitted?

I could be wrong, but if it's a Bolero with the built in 6 disc changer I think you need to press load and then press the number (1-6) of the slot you want to load the disc in to.

Thanks again for replies.

I've really checked and it can't be in the boot, I've looked all over including behind both removable panels.

Most likely the mechanism is jammed as KBPhoto says.

Would Skoda have sold it to me like this? It has never worked so they must have done. Really disappointing, they've been brilliant otherwise. I suppose I should have checked it all worked on the test drive, but there was so much to check and it wasn't like a had a cd with me.

Any ideas if this is something that would be repaired under warranty??

If it's under warranty I'd expect that it would be.

I don't have a Bolero, do have you tried pressing 'load' choosing which slot and then putting the disc in?

If not, go back under warranty if you can.
