electrical connector tool

Featured Replies

I have hit a snag fitting reversing senors to 3 cars - you need to break in to the rearlight connector block to plumb in a new mini-harness. I have tried using mini-screwdrivers and thick wire to depress the retaining clips on the individual terminations in the connector but cannot manage to release them. My dealer will not lend me the tool as I bought items on ebay. He says the relevant tool comes as part of a large kit which costs over

Not sure exactly which connector you have but we use a range of "molex" type connectors at work which are very similar to those used in cars etc. I wonder if the reason you cant remove them is because they're designed to stay put.

Thanks, I cannot replace the connector as it plugs directly into rear light unit. Within the kit there are 2 exposed replacement terminations and they have a small pround flat "barb" either side to locate within the plastic connector block. When inserted there is a small hole either side in the moulding to accept a tool to compress the barbs. They look uniguely VAG and not general electrical standard - unfortunately. Iam looking for the release tool.

The only alternative to I have is to cut the wiring and crimp or solder, which is a pity given I have the genuine article.

The release tools are acually part of the VAS 1978 wiring kit. That would set you back about

Remember some of the connectors have a locking device in them to secure the pins. This is usually bright purple in colour and will slide out the end. If I remember correctly on the rear light connector half of one side is hinged and folds down to release the pins.

You do remember correctly  Fold the little hinge down and it will make it ever so slightly easier. I tried paperclip and all sorts, but you want something straight and that'll help you.
