Sealed the door on my Fabia but.......

Featured Replies

I sealed the door on my Fabia as others have advised on here with Plumbers Gold sealant.  After all this rain we've been having it didn't seem to be leaking except for today I noticed a water mark coming from the window winding arm.  Could it be that the door was filling up with water right up to this point and now it's finding it's way out where the window arm is atached?  I read on one of the threads that somebody in some garage dealt with the problem by drilling a larger hole where the water drains out on the underside of the door....or did they drill and additional hole?  He then painted around the newly made hole to prevent rusting.  Maybe I should do the same?  Any thoughts?  My sealant seems to be doing it's job though preventing water excaping around the bottom of the door seal.

Check the drainage holes in the door to see if they are blocked.

Thanks.  I did have a look today but it had stopped raining and they seemed to be clear.  Maybe I should pour some water down the outside for it do flow through the door and see how well it's draining if at all......?

sometimes it's the only way to test it. In fairness, the door drain holes tend to be fairly clear and are quite large on the fabia anyway.

When I sealed my door carriers up, I went over all the fixings that poked through the carrier with the sealant. Probably overkill but like the Tesco advert says, every little helps!

Thanks.  I'll test it tomorrow.  It does seem to be draining but the only reason I can come up with for a water 'mark' around the window 'handle' is that it wasn't draining quickly enough.  I don't need to remind anybody either that it's been pretty wet the last 24 hours.

When I sealed mine they still leaked, turned out they had water tracking down pretty much anything it could ie Bowden cable to the handle and through the speaker aperture. I sealed every seal, bung and entry/exit point of the door carrier including putting a small blob of sealer on the rivets and onto the doorcard plastic clips. Never leaked again after that!
