Quick question

Could a mp3 cd changer play mp3 discs when connected to a non mp3 minidisc headunit (mdxm690 if it helps)

cheers

Steve

 Just realised you already must have the HU. :o

I would assume the HU would do the decoding, an MP3 changer would just read the MP3-CD format disk to send the data to the HU.

So my guess is 'No', but it is only a guess. See what everyone else says...

EDIT: I changed my mind, looking at it, the changer does the decoding and sends the audio so you shouldn't need an MP3 HU to play the disks.

eg http://www.alpine-europe.com/content/english/a513.det.CHA-S634_6-Disc-CD---MP3-Changer.htm

The Alpine MP3 changer does indeed do the decoding...I'd imagine most MP3 changers would, otherwise they'd just be CD changers which would send the data signal to the head unit... :rubchin:

Guess it might vary for different makes.

def some data is sent for track/artist info for sure....

It depends on the interface as to whether that's used or not...it's possible to use that Alpine changer with "non-MP3" compatible head units, and it's just like having a very large CD.
