which engine - 1.6Tdi, 1.9Tdi or 2.0 Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am looking fior another occy to replace my aging 2004 1.9TDi. which has 180K on it.

I've seen a 2.0Tdi Laurin and Klebent with only 44k on it 2007 immaculate at £7400.

Never used a 2.0Tdi but loved my old 1.9Tdi. and seen several1.6Tdis about with 70 - 80K

My main question is which engine is best - economy is important but as long as it over 50mpgthat should be OK. I'm not a boy racer anymore - just love comfort and size of Occy.

Any guidance appreciated. My milage now is about 15 to 20000 miles pa

Well all three engines are good for over 50 mpg, so I would test drive them all and see what you think.

The newer 2.0 TDI and all 1.6 TDI are common rail engines and are significantly more refined than the 1.9 TDI PD engine.

As for reliability, the 1.9 TDI is renowned for reliability and these days I would say the same for the 2.0 TDI. The 1.6 TDI is a much newer engine and it's probably fair to say it is still a bit unproven on the reliability stakes, but they seem fine.
