Hids and going in for service?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Iv got hid's in the low beam on my 2013 fabia se. I think theyre brilliant etc etc, but its going in for its first year service on saturday morning.

Just after some opinions really, would you leave them in, or take them out?

I dont really want them putting a mark against the car and voiding the warranty if something goes wrong with a related part on the future. Do you think theyd do that?

Cheers in advance :).

They will change the oil and filter, put some ticks on a piece of paper and that's it .

They won't even notice your lights, let alone give them a second thought.

I left my hid lights in and had it serviced a few weeks ago, no problems at all.

Ah cheers guys.

One of the ballasts is mounted on the air filter casing :/. They will notice it haha

They never seemed to notice or comment when I had the Milltek on and that was fairly obvious lol

why on the filter casing? of all the places to hide them!!

I wasnt trying to hide then, it was just a convenient and secure place to put them while routing the cables nicely.

I didnt see the point in 'hiding' them as the bonnet hides it all anyway haha.

Maybe move the obvious ballast and then just forget about them. I don't intend to take mine out. I will take my cone filter out and put it back to standard though

Yeah i think thats the best bet mate. Might just take the mic abit too much where it is haha.

I can imagine theyve got their eyes peeled abit more for performance mods

Mine is behind the air filter box attached to an o ring in the engine bay. Nice and out the way.

I'm Peru tempted to do a remap but not sure on the gains and also the losses of mpg.

Ill take a look tomorrow, see if i can mount mine there. Cheers :).

I didnt think their was much of a loss in mpg with a remap? I thought it just fine tuned the engine to the quality of fuel and air thats available. I thought you could actually get increased mpg and power?

If I get a chance I will take a picture of the place it's in.

Like I said I'm not sure about the numbers, might be worth an ask. Also not sure if Skoda would notice at a service.

Dont worry too much mate, ill have a good look about and see where that gets me. Cheers anyway :).

Hmm yeah. Im no expert so i really couldnt say. I think id wait until after the warranty to map it though

My Ballasts have been cable tied under the striker panel for 16 months now with no issues, they are out of the way and it's had 2 services without a comment from the dealer. I have put a small strip of self adhesive Neoprene on them to damp out any vibes.

Sounds like a good idea. Whats a striker panel though? Haha.

Slam panel or whatever you youngsters call it, where the striker plate is mounted for the bonnet catch :)

Oooh yeah. I know what you mean. I havent called it anything before haha.

Cheers
