Water runs into boot when opening

Featured Replies

I'm sure some ones raised this before but I've yet to find a definite answer to this fault. This is a major PITA when opening the boot the water runs off straight onto the rear shelf supports and the speakers. From what I can work out it's the gap at the bottom of the rear screen that allows the water to run off. Has anyone come up with a fix for this??

Doesn't happen on the estate :D

There are some threads about adding a small bead of clear silicone to direct the water down the channel, or open the boot, wait a bit for the water to run off, then fully open it.

I think its the shape of the boot lid thats to blame and if you have a spoiler its worse. Its very annoying

Same on the Mk2

I open mine very slowly and that helps

Crap design I'm afraid

I'm not real good with silicone Rob and don't want to make a mess of my boot lid. You're not wrong it's so annoying can't believe this still happens on the mk2 and mk3 octys.

Just found a good thread about using a corsa B lower rear screen trim to fit in the gap at the bottom of the screen.

Off to the scrappy to go get one worth a try stop the rear speakers getting wrecked.

Will post pics if it works.

Oh no- put corsa trim on and car explodes :(

Yeap lot's of threads on this.

Stupid design

I first learned to partially open boot let the water run off then fully open quickly. Kinda works better.

I have also put a bead of black tiger seal in that channel and that actually helps a lot, as it stops the large amount/build up in the channel so you only get the surface water sat on boot.

Also make sure the boot surface is well waxed so the water can run off quicker than you can fully open it.

Just got the trim from scrappy so will fit tomorrow and test it. I do the slow opening but the missus always forgets so I need to do something. I find since I rain-x ed the rear screen it's worse as it runs quicker.

Be cool to see if it works coz it is a damned irritating getting a cascade of water into your boot- wet carpet, gets warm and steamy windows...annoys crap out of me

This happened to me this morning. Thought it was just my car haha, will be watching this 1.

Just in the process of fitting this trim not a straight forward as first thought. The original rubber below the screen causes a problem but I don't want to cut it off so I'm trimming the corsa part to get it to fit so far so good just time consuming.

X2 for the silicone/tiger seal.

Don't notice so much on my mk2 tbh

The fitted trim looks quite OEM, wasn't the easiest and I may go back to scrappy get another to redo it. The good news is it works to more rain in the boot

you mean it works to add more rain in boot???? Re read your post)

not doing it then..

I have same trim from scrap yard and i tried to fit today and as you state it is too big to go into channel so needs trimming which kinda defeats the object of finding something simple to fit IMO. But hey ho may have a go messing about later as if it works may still be worth it..

A bit tired when I posted that bud, does the job but does need trimming to fit like I said. The silicone wasn't an option for me as I'm $h1t with sealant. FOr some reason won't let me edit my post on this thread.

Agreed

Wax the **** of it

And rain x the window

Gentle open then its gone

Or get umbrellas for ur speakers :D

hmmm..... i wonder would it be possible to that, full way down each side of the hatch lid, that would unfurl as you open it?

time for thinking i think!!!
