4x4 - 1.6 tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all

After some opinions

Is the 1.6 tdi underpowered for the 4x4? I've heard some decent things about this engine in the 2wd but does it struggle with the extra weight of the 4x4?

Thanks

Steve

Not driven the 1.6 4x4 myself but did originally consider the 105 with Haldex before eventually ordering the 150. Pleased I did, as the 2ltr engine provides a relaxed driving experience with plenty of go on tap for overtaking if need be; noticeable improvement on the previous 110 4x4 Yeti and I'm getting close to 50mpg.

There are one or two about at dealers, might be worth tracking one down for a test drive but I feel the 150 would be the better choice if funds would allow.

Do you know the weight of the 4x4.

Just had a 105bhp 1.6 tdi passat bluemotion for about a week while my car as repaired.

According to the vw website the weight is almost 1600kg, iirc a good bit heavier than an octy vrs let alone the octy 2wd.

Even with 4 adults it didn't feel underpowered. It didn't feel fast but at no point did I struggle to keep up with traffic.

Didn't do great mpg though, presumably from having to work harder. 39mpg versus me tearing about in the vrs at 40-42mpg.

Kerb weight of the 1.6 4x4 is 1360kg, 1247kg for the 2wd manual 1.6 estate so a fair difference with the 4x4.

I'm leaning towards the 2.0 but I might see if any dealers have got a 1.6 I can try out
