  1. Hi Folks, Replacing the Lambda (Oxygen) Sensor on my sons 1.2 TSI Fabia Mk2 2011 engine code CBZB It’s the Bank 1 Sensor 1 So the top sensor pre cat etc. Can anyone give me the correct Torque setting for this sensor please. I’ve tried a search but not having much luck and I don’t trust the google links with suspicious online manuals. Be much appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks Nick
  2. Hiya folks I’ve been considering upgrading to a Mk3 Octavia as I’ve had a fair few Mk2’s now and I’m thinking the 1.6TDI might be the route I go. What’s the general consensus regards the 1.6TDi? I’m mainly from the era of earlier PD lumps like the 1.9TDi which as we all know are uber decent but these more modern dervs being common rail et al etc do seem to be hit and miss. Is there anything specific to look out for that the 1.6TDi suffers from? Eg are injectors, DPF’s, EGR’s still quite a common issue? Do they suffer anything that’s particularly drastic like cracked heads etc? Just doing a bit of homework before I start the used car hunting. TIA Nick
  3. Hiya folks just a quick one, my 2009 Octavia Elegance estate has a quirky electrical gremlin. I’ve noticed when indicating right both dash symbols for indicators are flashing (eg looks like hazards) and also the cruise control symbol is illuminated and there’s a feint glow on another symbol. The indicators externally are working fine it’s just a quirky dash symbol Illumination that’s doing my ocd nut in 😬 When the indicator is off there’s no symbols illuminated and no check lights or bulb out lights etc. To me it seems like maybe theres a poor or bad earth somewhere? Any pointers on what’s the usual culprits? Tia Nick
  4. Cheers Pikpilot, I’ve got stacks of history with the car and it has FSH with relatively low mileage for its age circa 82k but no mention of it ever having a replacement unit. if it’s still the original unit at circa 17 years old that’s definitely some innings 😁 Part number is 1K8 951 005
  5. Removed the siren/battery back up unit today. Had a 30min drive and car locked up fine no issues so far. I’ve just opened up the unit for a nosey and it’s returning 3.5v so I’m assuming it’s goosed should be 6v? No signs of battery leakage or bad circuits but one of the capacitors has come away from the board and was rattling around inside. I’m assuming the backup battery tries to pull a charge from the main battery to stay at 6v is this correct?
  6. I’m pretty sure my 2009 Octavia has the common alarm siren/back up battery issue. I’ve done some searching and understand the siren/back up battery resides in the drivers front wheel arch. Would I be correct in assuming that if I simply disconnect the wiring connector from the unit that it would no longer try and charge the backup battery? I’m 99.9% certain that a faulty back up battery is causing significant drain and as a temporary measure until I can fix/replace the unit I’m thinking just simply disconnect it for now? Likely to cause any issues with simply disconnecting it? Thanks Nick
  7. Cheers Alasdair, I’ll check out the link 👍
  8. Hiya Folks, Unfortunately my infrequently used 2009 Octavia 1.4tsi estate recently threw a EML which leads me towards a stretched timing chain. It’s only done 82k one previous owner from new and has decent service history but such is life especially as it’s common knowledge now that the early tsi notably from 2009 wasn’t a good year. I’ve had it just over a year and it’s always had a stone cold not used for days death rattle but usually it’s super quiet after a few seconds and didn’t rattle at all if used daily. Anyway I’ve now got it my garage and will be stripping it down, I have timing tools and am a semi retired mechanic but I’ve been out the game a while and only really repair my own stuff. However I’m doing this on a shoestring budget as the car is just back up and only really used for minimal mileage I doubt I’ll ever do 20k in it. Hence I’m not going to go daft and buy a geniune kit as it wouldn’t be cost effective not at today’s dealer prices that’s for sure. I’ve noticed there are so many after market kits available just a search on eBay brings up crazy amounts. Any of you chaps recommend a decent ish kit that’s not daft money? Usually in the past I’ve used stuff from INA, Febi, FAI, Gates etc are there any kits that are ones to definitely avoid? My senses say stay away from the no names ebay specials but maybe there’s a decent one? What after market kits have you chaps used before and did you have any issues? Thanks Nick
  9. Will do it’s a 1.4tsi circa 82k fsh with regular oil changes no untoward noises or any running issues but I know timing chains can be the Bain of many vag engines and something I’ve always been wary of.
  10. Thanks Alasdair, I’ll get it scanned with a friends setup see what that reports.
  11. Hiya folks 2009 Skoda Octavia Mk2 TSI petrol Estate New one on me, had the check engine light ping on twice now. I scanned it with my old vgate VAG scanner and the only code is 00022 motor for warm-air flap centre console right rear (V201) why on earth would that ping the check engine light? Heaters work fine all the controls and settings work fine even the AC works cleared the code didn’t return for 3 days. But today it’s pinged back on again so it’s obviously going to be recurring any advice on what the usual culprit is?
  12. As per messages I’ll take this please Dave will be perfect for my needs 👍🏻 Many thanks Nick
