1.8T oil pressure issues?

Featured Replies

hi guys, my felicia has gotten a bit rattly on the top end, sounds almost like valve train noise to me, it appears to be quiet at idle and gets noiser as the engine speed increases, also it's worse when the engine is warmed up.

now the thing is the sump plug thread is a bit dodgy on the existing sump and i fancied one of those shallow sump kits to put on there too which comes with a new oil pickup pipe as well.

so ideally this is the best time to do this i guess? is there anything else that i should try? for example is it worth changing the oil pump and chain at the same time too? also could it be the cam link chain and tensioner gone? my rationale is that seeing as i would need to remove the timing belt i might as well do it in one swoop if you like?

the oil that is in there has done about 2k miles, which was the quantum platinum stuff that tps sold me which is 5/30 grade i believe, not sure if this make any difference.

pour some Mr Muscle in the oil,is a multi miracle maker

As clever as you think you might be you should keep your unhelpful smart arse posts to yourself.

Does sound like the cam chain tensioner and guide getting weak always worth replacing if it's not been done! If the belts coming off will help be bit easy for you! Just make sure the bolts go back in in the right order ( guy at work didn't and caused massive issues!!) not saying you will just giving some info.

As for the oil pump if you got the ££ then change the pump and strainer as it's working hard in there and it'll help with the life of the engine

Mine had a low pressure issue, apparently the oil pressure relief valve was blocked with stuff

wich is that one Rob?

Relief valve is in the housing that the oil filter screws on to.

i must admit i've not hooked up an oil pressure guage to it as yet, i think the first place to look is under the rocker cover before i do anything just to check the camshafts are not worn and that there is no dodgy hydraulic lifters in there, i'm planning on taking the car off the road for a couple of months anyway to resolve a few other issues, alas i dont think i'll be squirting mr muscle in the engine :giggle:

i did some digging about on the interwebs and it appears the oil pump assembly is approx £120, i think the cam chain tensioner is around the same price too, its an agu engine so its the non vvt version

i'm not scared of getting my hands dirty, but do remember that there are some crazy odd length bolts in there as well, i;m just weighing up wether or not its worth doing it all in one go while it's apart, it could mount up in cost with all the other bits i need to do too.
