Ciggy Lighter causes Radio Hum

Featured Replies

I just noticed that charging my satnav causes a hum/noise/static when lisiting to a radio channel.

I know, electic cables and speaker wires, etc.....

But has anyone else noticed the same, and are they fixes to stop it happening.

( I do have to charge whilst driving, so having it charge prior to driving & losing out on Radio4 is not a fix ;-)

Mine does the same when listening to audiobooks by MP3

So you have sensitive ears like mine. I get the same when listening to books....I've tried to turn down the gain...had it at a stupid level, thanks the amber/green/red lights on the amp telling me amber was too low !

So, any tips to reduce the whitenoise and hum ?

I used to get this in my astra. Think it is feedback from the alternator as with mine the sound used to change with the revs of the engine.

Tried loads of different chargers and all was the same but when charging through USB port on HU I found it ceased so has to be something to do with the earth or live feed from the cigarette lighter socket.
