buying Superb 3,6 DSG ?

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm thinking about buying a used Superb 3,6 DSG 2009 thats passed 140,000km (about 8700miles). What should I wach out for? Anything thats a usual problem on this car at this disstance? How is this DSG 6 gearbox? Any problems?

Any answers much apprishiated!

Thanks

They seem to be pretty bulletproof. I know the timing chains can go on the 3.2s, but the 3.6s may not have the same chain setup.

I love my v6! :)

I have been looking at the 3.6 recently and it looks like the new facelift ones (2013 onwards) have slightly improved mpg and are also £280 road tax instead of £400 +

They don't even list the 3.6 in Ireland anymore and don't think I've ever seen one here - the €1,200 tax (more for older models) might have something to do with that!  A unique car though and probably one of the most deceiving and understated on the road with that V6. At least somebody else will have suffered the depreciation on an 09 model which might offset the pain of visiting the petrol pumps! Good luck with the search!

Owning a V6 may not be as painful as you think, unless of course you have a very high annual road tax.

I bought my pre-FL model new in 2013 and, because I have a low annual mileage, fuel consumption was not a major issue for me. I have however made a couple of long journeys recently and the computer tells me fuel consumption is between 8-9 litres/100kms (31-35 mpg). I know the fuel computer may not be wholly accurate but I'm happy with that so please don't disillusion me.

The V6 is a comfortable, quiet, long distance cruiser that handles reasonably well and is equally at home pottering around town. Fuel consumption around town?  I don't even look but if a V6 suits your circumstances and you think it represents value for money then it's worthy of consideration.

I fancy a V6 estate to replace our Octavia FL estate, I heard one a week or so ago and it sounded fantastic on the quad pipes.  Real wolf in sheeps clothing, problem might be to find one when we come to change.  Can't justify new and it is very hard to find a petrol Superb let alone a V6.  I think V6 owners will keep them for a while yet knowing how good they are.  Yes I suppose the road tax is not great on the older ones but it is only the difference (I tell myself) and you don't have to worry about a turbo blowing, so there are pluses and minus's with everything.

Enjoy it if you get one.

I have covered 42K miles in mine and it has been a most enjoyable car to own.

It's economy from such a large engine is never going to be great but I am pleased with my overall 29.7mpg.

Tyre wear has also surprised with front at 22K and rear 37K.

I am on extended service intervals so only had 2 services and a DSG oil/filter change - so again relatively inexpensive

It does use a litre of oil between services.

Overall if well maintained and documented history it has got to be worth a look at, at the right money - depreciatation and high road tax are a killer (not a problem in your case as someone has suffered the depreciation), certainly in the UK, but the smile on your face when you hear that V6 on full throttle and the surprised look on others drivers faces is a treat.
