How odd - split driveshaft gaiter

Featured Replies

Mine's just had it's 3rd service (at 54k) and they had to replace the nearside outer driveshaft gaiter - which seems very odd.  I think it wasn't a warranty item either as the driver who brought it back was complaining they had to wait 2 hours for the Lease Company to approve it..

I wouldn't expect them to fail this early on??

Not expect, but as Tom Jones says, 'Its not unusual!'.

Was this the side of the Wild Boar incident?

Or opposite as in Offside, RH drive car.

It was indeed the "boar" side.  Not the first item of possible "consequential damage"; had to have a new radiator post-repair as well...

Could well have been damaged during the repair as it did have some suspension components replaced.

Can't remember but did you have your engine replaced?

When my engine was replaced either the technician split one of the gaiters or noticed it was split when reassembling. So possibly a common fault if the car has been pulled apart?

Engine was replaced, yes - but over 30k ago.
