Meteor grey - choosing wax - help!

Featured Replies

I could do with some advice. I've got a Fabia in a flat grey colour known as Meteor grey.

I opted not to get the usual autoglym dealership rip-off and wanted to sort out the pain protection myself with decent products. Unfortunately I ended up getting caught up with work and did 7000 miles over winter with nothing to protect the paint.

Coming out the other side of winter now I've given her a good wash, claybar and polish. I've slapped some turtle wax on top for now but want to get a good quality wax that will work well with the unusual colour and show it off to its best.

I've read all about depth and shine and wetness and warmth but I'm nowhere near being able to pick a decent wax to use. Does anyone have any recommendations for something I can just apply once every three months or so that will do a good job for me? It would be a bonus if it did a decent job on the Mrs' black Rapid but not the end of the world if it's just 'ok'.

I've got some small swirls in the paint that a hand polish won't get out. I don't really want to go removing layers of paint at this stage so a wax that's good at masking imperfections is important.

Thanks!

Collinite 845 and sonax BSD or dodo juice supernatural hybrid and sonax BSD.

No mater what get the sonax! You can read loads of rave reviews on here about it.

You could just put the Sonax straight over the paint after polishing!

What do you want to spend?

I guess I don't want to spend more than £50 or so. But it sort of depends on how long it will last and so how much I get out of a tub. What does sonax do that you don't get from juicing a dodo? Is one a synthetic sealant and the other a wax to show off the paint/colour?

I was wondering the same with my white. Opted to try the Dodo Juice Hybrid and I'm impressed.

It's pretty damn shiny! The only thing I had a problem with was seeing the wax to buff it off!

Soft99 Fusso Coat?

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I'll have another go at polishing it (bit more elbow grease this time) and depending on how the swirls look I'll go with either sonax/sealer (for the reflectivity Chrisrs mentions) or wax (hide the swirls).

Wax doesnt hide the swirls....Polish with fillers will

Wax doesnt hide the swirls....Polish with fillers will

Oh. I 'learned' this from one of the sticky posts on here... It was sticky so it must be right :-D

So, plan is:

- super resin polish, elbow grease, and I'm told it includes a sealant

- either sonax alone or sonax + dodo juice supernatural hybrid (I *need* to find out what the juice of a dodo is like)

When you say "polish with fillers", would you include super resin polish or not? I'm going to start there and see what I'm left with, but if it's not enough then could do with a recommendation for a cheapest polish (as hopefully it won't be something I do regularly).

Thanks

...and is the sonax strictly needed if super resin polish includes a bit of sealant and I go for a hybrid wax? I don't mind washing my car, and I like applying wax. It's... Satisfying...

Sorry Chris, but waxes can fill too.  Some more than others and not to the extent of SRP and the like perhaps but some waxes are quite effective at this.

I do agree with the post though and people shouldn't look to their LSP to cover swirls, this should be done in the prep.

Not needed but BSD will really top off the protection and has to be one of the best products out there for protecting your car inbetween wax applications.

Maybe a few Mark

AGSRP is full of fillers and a small amount of sealant..But it benefits greatly being topped with a wax or sealant

There is one sealant that is laced with fillers that I highly recommend:

Bilt Hamber Autobalm...Tricky to apply and remove, but well worth it interms of durability and masking abilities

I have been using bsd on my race blue for 5 weeks. I have a sonax npt base. Can I use supernatural hybrid straight on top of the bsd already on and keep using the bsd or would there be no point? Will I lose the shine of the snh?

I would use SNH then top up with BSD as required

I already have bsd on. Is it ok to put the snh over the top then top up with bsd.

Yes..It will be fine due to BSD being a sealant

As it has been mentioned recently on another thread;

i would add Finishkare FK1000P as a great option here.

Awesome product, great price, and it will not disappoint!

Just to say..........

I was well in before the hype on Fusso

You were indeed Mark

Nice little combo yesterday

CG Jetseal 109 topped with Authentic. Both lovely to work with and seems a perfect partner

Going to do Andy Goldfinger's new white vRs on Monday with it

Haha just thought I'd point it out :)

I am actually looking at a Mk2 FL Octy vRS estate as a potential new motor. Oddly I have never detailed a white car before.
