Radiator fans on and off with ignition on Scout

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

After some really happy motoring the missus noticed that after she killed the ignition the radiator fans stayed on for around 10/15 seconds and then switched off. When I checked this I noticed that the fans come on as soon as the ignition is switched on, and stay on until the ignition is switched off. I've read numerous posts here on fan related issues but a lot seem to point to fans as in airconditioning fans or fans running and draining the battery, we do not have that issue.

A local garage took a readout for me earlier this afternoon which I attached. I'll keep digging around the forum but one of you might recognize the fault!

Based on what I've read I will check; water in fuse box, bad connections to fan 'brain'.

Thanks All!post-98988-0-87183300-1394822424_thumb.jpg

Id be checking the thermostat too

Ps engine temp perfectly normal at all times.

Different car but potential same problem. Wife's leon did this. And to fix it the loom that runs under the battery tray had rubbed and a wire had broken. So I repaired it and problem solved.

Problem solved. Had second opinion done and was told fan pack most likely at fault. In the end I took it back to my mates garage when he had an hour to spare and after removing the bottom plastics he found a connector full of water. Bit of drying out, contact cleaner, job done. Think it's the main cable connecting the ECU to the bottom of the fan pack. Visible from the top but not reachable.

Hope this will came in handy for someone at some stage...
