My 1.2tsi began to intermittently sound like a diesel a couple of weeks ago. Checked oil - fine. Nothing comes up on dashboard display. Driving Ok just sounds awful all the time now. Currently in the garage dreading a phone call!

Had a courtesy diesel rapid that sounds worse! Haha. This maybe what the mechanics looked a bit quizzical when I showed them how 'noisy' it is. However used to the quiet purring.

Just found out it needs a new turbo and timing chain. That's the summer holiday cancelled then!

4 years old in 2 weeks. 37k on clock. Carefully driven. No idea what has caused this. Went into safe mode last year and had something fitted to the turbo but that was a standard recall apparently. Gutted.

Now started another post with 'Turbo and Timing Chain fail' in the title in an attempt to get some useful comments/suggestions

I would put in a call (or ask your dealer to) to VAG's UK HQ and see if they will help cover some/all of the cost of this repair - since it is reasonable to expect a turbo & timing chain to last MUCH longer than 37,000 miles.

 

It will help your case if you have full dealer service history - or can prove your car has been serviced on schedule with genuine parts.
