Any one help??

Just brought my fabia Vrs mk1 and my interior light doesn't come on when I open my doors. The red door lights come on but not the interior light. The light does work but only when I manually turn it on??? Am I being stupid and its not on the correct setting or is it more like a fuse maybe??

 i have a octavia does the same thing clean the doors catch because it has a contact in side what makes it work if no joy its going to be a scrap yard job
