Limp Mode

Featured Replies

Whilst my 3 year old diesel Yeti has behaved faultlessly, I thought my experience with a Citroen C4 might be of interest. I picked up a Citroen C4 diesel on Friday and had to deliver it to an auction site. The car was immaculate and was only 3 years old. However, on entering the motorway system, the car went into limp mode (reduced power) and caused all sorts of problems. The car would not go above 50mph and on inclines I could only reach 25mph. Pretty scary when lorry drivers are overtaking you and sounding their horns. Managed to get off the motorway at the next exit but it was not an experience I would not like to repeat.

I've been told that the car goes into limp mode to protect the engine as the on board computer has detected a mechanical problem. A blockage in the DPF is one of the many reasons that can cause this and I was wondering if any any of the Yeti owners have had a similar problem. DPF issues have been discussed many times on this forum but I can't remember if any of the vehicles went into limp mode.

You need to get scanned for fault codes to determine the problem.

I think I would have gone to the hard shoulder and driven with the hazards on at those speeds until I reached the next exit, rather than risk a rear end shunt on the main carriageway.
