Hi all, it's been a bit of a journey but finally got my flappy paddles working this morning on the FL Yeti.

I thought I'd do a write-up so that anyone considering this upgrade knows what to do as I ran into a roadblock along the way.

Firstly I can now confirm there has been a CANBUS update on the FL Yeti, which means the Multi-Functional Steering Wheel controls have to match. This is where I went wrong - the wheel I bought came with the older version CANBUS switches - they look visually identical but are wired differently and as such though the paddleshift worked, the radio/MFD controls were all screwed up.

So, if you have a PRE-FL Yeti, all you need do is buy a paddleshift wheel from any 2009-2013 Octavia/Superb or similar (Skodadop do a range of wheels so you can choose the one that suits you best) - then connect up VAG-COM or VCDS and activate the paddleshift function.

If, like me, you have a POST-FL Yeti, you need to either buy an Octavia 2014 wheel (currently the only one with the new CANBUS switches) or, retro fit the new switches to the older wheel (very easy to do - I did this bit myself). Sadly the standard FL Yeti steering wheel switches don't have the sockets for the paddles, so you have to buy the switches separate - again Skodadop sell the paddleshift switches as a separate option.

Here's a link to the steering wheels that Skodadop offer - I chose the vRS version: http://skodadop.com/en/yeti-/ruli-3/

& here's a link to the switches needed for the FL model: http://skodadop.com/en/fabia-ii/ruli-6/knopki-na-rul-s-lepestkami-dsg-dlya-skoda-superb-2-facelift-2014-5e0919719g.html

First impressions - thoroughly impressed. I can exercise so much more control over the car with these paddles than running in full auto mode, or using the stick shifter to execute a gearchange. Even in full auto-mode, you can still use the paddles to make a quick gear change, and after a few seconds the car reverts back to full auto again. Approaching a roundabout or junction this is a very useful feature.

Finally a couple of photos of the wheel fitted.

Finally a big thank you to Jim & the team at SJB Autotech in Basingstoke (VAG specialists) who persisted in sorting this all out for me!

I have to correct you

The difference between the button types

Ones that are fitted to the Octavia 3 only work on this platform

The other ones that are fitted to FL Superb work on Yeti, Octavia 2 FL, Fabia, Rapid

Is that not what I said?

Octavia 3 (2014) switches work on FL Yeti.

Other ones work on pre-FL Yet.

Octavia 3 buttons end A & B

You have fitted G, I have F on my mfsw

F & G won't work on octavia 3

So the ones you have are not are not Oct 3

Ah right yes. They're from the Superb II model (2014). Apologies I thought it was Octavia 3. Anyway the part number is correct.

Many thanks for the write-up.  Have contacted SJB to have the same thing done but they don't have exact part numbers.  I have looked at your links but wonder if you have any more detailed information to make sure I don't make any mistakes!

My car is Feb 2014 post FL YetiElegance 170 DSG

Buy any steering wheel from the first link & add the switches from the 2nd link.

Or email skodadop and see if they can supply a wheel with the FL compatible switches already fitted (which will be the cheapest option).

I sourced my paddleshift steeringwheel from skodateile.cz. Think it was € 175,-. +shipping.  But this is the "old" 3-spoke wheel where I could reuse original airbag.

Do you have direct link for the steeringwheel from skodateile? Would not want to order the wrong one :)

headman78: I got the skodateile itemnumber O2f-279, can't see this item listed now.

I sent an email to skodateile, incl vehicle details and VIN, and told them I already had the MFSW without DSG switches. Ales then confirmed I could use the O2f-279 as plug-and-play.
I never ordered thruogh their webshop, all discussion and ordering were made pr email.

Thanks mate! Did you install it yerself?

Yes, replaced the steering wheel myself, but had assistance from a VCDS-buddy to enable the DSG switches.

Remember the bolt that fixes the steering wheel to the shaft needs an XZN bit. Think it was 12mm XZN.

Looks like this is in plain leather.  You should try to find one with perforated leather.  There will also be different stitching colours.

Suggest you send an email to Ales at Skodateile.

I did, waiting for their response. I also found one in Sweden, but it is used and costs almost 350 euros with shipping.

Skodateile has sold out all steering wheels with DSG paddles. They do not know if they can get them back in stock :(

I asked from the store if that fits my Yeti and they told me yes it does, a bit expensive though. I guess I need to ask if the old airbag fits in too.

That looks interesting, a semi facelift for the pre fl models!

Looks like it would be a straight fit to most models... £330 seems ok because it's got the airbag too, I guess the older wheels are much cheaper now.

Thanks for noticing that it comes with the airbag already, I guess I now gotta buy it :)

I bought it and managed to get free shipping and no 5% paypal fee. Next I need to find a repair shop that installs it. I wonder if it needs VCDS coding to function?

Have not tested DSG paddles yet so I don't know if they need VCDS coding to function.
