Older Skoda gearboxes..

Featured Replies

Hello all. Been looking to buy an older 2001/02 Skoda diesel, something that will run the Bio, 14214    not SVO/WVO..

From a bit of research it looks like both SDI and TDI <2006 non PD will do the trick and that's great.

The biggy that's been putting me off is the gearboxes issues, they is cack on the SDI and TDI not fairing much better apparently?

For the time being it would really help if someone in the know could just briefly let me know why they are considered weak and what the problem usually is as it could be a deal breaker for any other motor that uses the same lump... VW, Seat I think share  that engine..

Thanks Bill.

my only (vague) recollection is that the crown wheel is riveted on early ones and eventually fails ---it's a place to start a search at least

Yes it's a start. Was just a little concerned. I've seen a few people on forums saying the SDI variant gearboxes were weak but didn't go into much detail about why they were weak and what caused it.. maybe a DMF fault or something alone those lines?

Cheers.
