Chirrup

Featured Replies

Never really been able to hear the turbo noise on the fabia vRS.My octavia obviously gives you the full blown whistle job.

The only thing I get seems to be a little and brief 'chirrup' but thats it :o

Is that really it (or a sparrow in the grill?) or is the chirrup something else?

When I took an Octy out I thought the turbo was very quiet compared to the Furby.

From about 1700-2500 in 3rd & 4th you should really be able to hear it - open the window and it's really very loud.

With the window open in 1st you should be able to frighten pedestrians with the whistle it makes if you boot it

Nope.Had the fabia for a year and the octavia for a year and a half.

Octavia whistle very loud.Fabia, nothing but the chirurp. Was surprised reading the linkwith people saying its loud.Have tried with the window down but engine is a bit noisy generally.

Not saying its a problem or questioning the car but I hear sod all from the fabia.

Maybe its pitched at dog whistle level for my hearing :D

Oh well .Drives mighty fine still

There was a batch of dodgy turbo bearings went out - my brother got one on his late 04 plate car - turbo wasn't producing full boost either.

Might be worth checking it out as there were about 2,500 VAG cars got them and there was no recall.

Mine only ever produced a faint whistling sound, thats all i could hear with the window down, and even then, usually only on enclosed roads where the sound echoes.

Window down - with the recent summer whether and it sounds like someone is in the bonnet with a high pitched whistle, its so high pitched that you often get dogs following your car

Whenever i take out friends and have the window open they all comment on it! I drove about 35 miles with the window down yesterday. When i got back my ears were ringing! I love the sound actually. It's a bit like a mini version of an inter city 125 train.

how it only lasts for about 5 rpm and isnt that loud its better in multi story caparks tho

About 1000rpm and very loud in my car!

The variable-vane turbo technology is what causes it, if it's very quiet there's not so much boost coming from the turbo. The 2.0TDi has very little noise, but the PD 130 should be quite noisy if it's working properly.

hum maybe mine is bust then :S

can anything be seen with vagcom ???

Not sure, where's Ross when you need him?

why not listen to someone elses vrs ehhhhhh

then youll know if yours is knackered

unless theirs is knackered :)

No.Assumed something to do with the brakes (Front NS).Thought it would just go......that was 4 months ago :)

Will mention it at next service.Let me know if you find out before

There's 4 Furby vRS's in my family and my brothers' was the only one that wasn't really vocal.

New turbo bearing and everyone's the same

Will do, it's driving me potty! My noise seems to coming from the driver's side front wheel, it sort of goes "Squeak squeak" in a slow rhythmic fashion, it's VERY noticeable when going at slow speeds, but seems to stop when the brakes are applied. It then starts again as soon as the brakes are released.

My Fabia did this, can only assume the brakes are contacting the discs somehow. Irritatingly, my golf also does this now as well!

Did you have to get this noise "rememdied"? or did it just stop doing it on it's own after a while?
