Rear fog light wire colour please, 2010 estate

Featured Replies

I have to swap my fog light over to left as abroad for 6 months and have the equivalent MOT to pass. Does anyone know which colour the fog light wire is please that goes into the rear cluster terminal block?

I want to attach a wire and run it to the other side and swap the bulbs over. But i don't know which colour. Kinda like defusing a bomb. Don't want to cut the wrong wire.

Any help gratefully received please.

the colour is Blue/White. Not sure but suspect this could be changed in VCDS as I know you can set it to put both on so do not see why it should not be possible to set it to use the other side.

The wiring for the estate and hatch is different.

Is the car FL or pre FL?

Thanks perfect. Need to try to see if it will work on the other side now. I was told vcds can't change it as it does not have the wire the other side.

2010 facelift estate vrs

This may be the VCDS coding

To enable only the left rear fog light :

use the following coding

Check Bit 1 Byte 3
Uncheck Bit 4 Byte 4
Uncheck Bit 6 Byte 4

I think that only works on pre facelift from other threads on this?

Doh. If it was pre FL then you could probably do it with VCDS, as it is FL then probably not.

IIRC the fog light on the estate uses one of the single filament rear light bulbs at the bottom of the cluster and the CCU increases the juice to make it brighter.

Just checked mine, FL Estate Elegance 2010 has a blue/white wire on both sides :sun:

Oh will double check then, thanks. But as trundlenut said, seems only to work on pre facelift not sure why.

The central electrics control module is different in the FL from the pre FL. Different capabilities and adaptions.

So hard wiring the only way then.

You won't be able to swap over the bulbs.

The bulbs are the same on both sides, single filament. The CANBUS system regulates the brightness depending on the required function (tail/fog).

There was a thread on here where someone tried to bridge the two clusters using a length of wire and they ended up confusing the CANBUS and throwing all the lighting functions out.

It IS possible to activate both rear fogs on the facelift Octavia, just not with VCDS.

Thanks silver, do you know how please?

The only evidence I have seen is a video which shows both working, but it doesn't explain how its done. VAG Can Pro may be able to do it. There is at least one member on here who has it. I think its Andyvee - check the VCDS forum for the Octavia III tweaks thread.

Well it's not the white with blue. wire that was top tail light. Will get a meter on it. To see which is lower bottom

It's annoying, it is dead easy to do it on the pre FL and you can do it two different ways on the mkIII.

I asked 2 dealers and they said they can't do it so manual wiring swap for me

Have you tried contacting Skoda UK?

They can ask Skoda Technical Support in the Czech Republic.

These threads are quite common and have supported that it can be done on the facelift Octavia, it's just UK dealers are mostly rubbish.

Several armed forces members posted that out in Germany they have had their local dealers make the change easily.

The problem is dealers don't use VCDS so it isn't possible to share how it is done.

Isn't VAS a bit fisher price? There isn't much detail on what happens, its just a case of pressing the big button.

What's Vas - sounds like a std?

Its an acronym for something probably very long in German.
