Washer bottle empty warning light

Featured Replies

Hi All, yesterday my warning light for the washer bottle level on my Lauren and Klement Occy started to come on. I have now filled it to top but warning light still flashes on - not all the time but several times during a short journey. Any ideas please.

Dunno I'm afraid.

But - does anyone know, please: what is the capacity of the washer bottle?  I've driven my Octavia for thousands of miles and used the washer regularly - still haven't needed to top-up yet!

I put in 3 liters so itis at least that.

capacity is 3 litres but if you have headlight washers it is 5.5  litres .

5.5 litres?  Wow, that's gallons!

A lot better than a Mazda MX-5 - the washer bottle there is about half a fluid ounce!  And the silly thing is, on the Mk3 MX-5 there would be room for a bottle almost twice as big.  Dur.

That is why Octavias with headlamp washers sit much lower on the off side :giggle:

With capacities like these why would anyone need a warning light anyway?

Good practice suggests regularly checking such levels so I can't imaging the bottle running dry between checks... unless off-roading is the main use (or laziness is the norm  :giggle: ).

eccleshill is right about the extra wieght oh the offside but makes it easier to negotiate round-a-bouts at speed

But makes entering and leaving the roundabout a bit dodgy - in countries where you drive on the left (most of the time).

I used a complete full bottle on a run from Whitby to Preston and back during the winter . Surprising how mucky the M62 is during the winter months!

I bet you didn't need a warning light to tell you it was empty though.  The fact that you knew you were using washers so much probably told you it was running low...

my washer bottle holds 5 litres and my car doesn't have headlight washers
