Exhaust questions

Featured Replies

I have a 2004 1.6 fsi elegance. While out today I heard what sounds like a slight exhaust blow. Came home and checked underneath and on the pipe just before the centre silencer is a small area of soot so it's obviously got a slight blow.

Went onto euro car parts to check for a price only to be told that they do not stock exhausts for that vehicle other than the Cat. Went onto skodaparts.com and they don't list any thing except gaskets and EGR valves.

Where can I get a centre section from?

Has anyone tried one from National car parts on flea bay?

Will I have to replace rear box too or are they flange fitted?

Ok here's one for the books. Just called my Local Skoda dealer (ALS Auto's in Ely) and they have said it's very unusual to need a replacement exhaust?

They've suggested that I attend their body shop who for 1 hrs Labour will either sleeve or patch weld the exhaust as it's very rare an exhaust goes?

No I'm new to VAG cars but am a qualified mechanic and have previously worked for main dealers my whole mechanical career (9 years) and have never known a main dealer to "patch" an exhaust instead of replacing it.

Does this sound right to you guys?

10 years sounds ok for a mild steel exhaust?

Try TPS, maybe a little cheaper then a dealer and would be "genuine" too.

They may be right though...mines a 2006 and the exhaust still looks fairly new, and I don't have a receipt for any replacement...

I don't I've checked all my receipts but have noticed that there was an advisory on the last MOT that it has a small leak. May just get it welded. If anything it'll get me through the MOT in July and allow me to do a few other bits and pieces that need tidying.

Need a new gear knob as leather is wearing a little either side of the chrome insert,

Philips Xtreme bulbs need fitting

Wipers need replacing

Air con needs regassing

O/S headlamp washer not working.

I removed the Tow bar last weekend as I hated it lol

Boot carpeted sides needs refitting as they are coming away near the tailgate rubber.

Then the stereo needs fitting.

So I have a few bits to do. Lol

Sounds like a good list!

My gearknob has fine leather, but peeling chrome

Didn't like the stock lamps so fitted HIDs

Wipers aren't amazing

AIRCON IS AMAZING! (Never had it before! :D)

No idea whether my washers will work...I'll find out tomorrow!

I wanted a towbar...I'd never use it though :/

I neeeeed to properly clean it though....I jave so many cleaning things waiting to be used!

My last cars backbox had holes in it for cable ties as the bracket rusted off, but a rust hole was "sealed" with exhaust paste...passed its last 2 MOTs like it!!

Lol I had an old Nissan Cherry Turbo which went through 2 mots with a coke can welded over a hole in the back box lol.

I've had cars with air con but this is the first car I've had with Climate Control. It's coldish but could be colder so I'll get it regassed.

Many vag cars don't use exhausts that have male/female ends, instead they butt up to each other or have a sleeve that connects them so it may be right to fit a sleeve to it.

Yeah I noticed each section is spliced, I'm gonna call and book it in. Get it up on the ramp and I'll be able to see whats what. It'll either be welded or sleeved, got to be cheaper than replacing.
