Car Scrape

Featured Replies

Hi all

I scraped my car against the neighbours low wall last night, the scrape goes along the entire side of the car. Despite going extremely slowly it seems to have made a dent too.

I spoke to a body shop today and they quoted me £400 + VAT and said the damage is beyond what a mobile SMART repair can do.

Do you this is a reasonable quote and do you think it could be SMART repaired?

I was quoted £400 to get both sills sprayed. TBH if you look at the 'Rusty Sills' thread you might want to take the opportunity to get the stonechip paint moved up higher anyway.

Thank you both for the advice.
Please could you explain what you mean by moving the chip stone paint upwards? Do they use a different type of paint at the bottom of the car?

Thanks :)

Smart repairs only do small sections. This is too big really.

Agreed with the above: get it resprayed and the protective rippled stone cover all the way to the door shuts to help avoid stone chips and rust later.

On the Pre FL cars they didn't put the stonechip paint hight enough with the result most pre-FL cars have some stone chip related rusting in that area. They fixed it after the FL model came out moving the stonechip paint right up to the bottom of the door.

Thanks guys re stone chip protector - noticed that the bottom section paint finish was different but didn't know why (thought it was penny pinching/unfinished paint area) - learn something new every day!

OK thanks for that information.
I have the FL version does that mean the stone chip layer is high enough on mine?

Anyone have any idea or guesses as to how much it'd likely to to be to raise the stone chip protector area if the car is fine already, no rust, no dings, just playing safe?

Yeah, just curious. :)

I probably wouldn't bother in that case. Better to look at getting some stone-chip film across the area to prevent it happening.
